McCann and Umezu Victorious at FJT Major

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.Battling it out over three days, it was Patrick McCann and Mayumi Umezu who raised the trophy at the Florida Junior Tour Major on Monday at Seminole Legacy Golf Club. This is the first FJT victory for both McCann and Umezu.

Boys 16-18 

McCann survived a playoff to take home the win in the Boys Division in his hometown. After a first-round 76 to start the tournament, McCann carded an even-par 72 in Sunday’s second round to sit three shots back of the leader.

The Tallahassee native got off to a quick start on the front side, birdieing the second. He added two more birdies to make the turn at 2-under. McCann ran into some trouble to start the back nine, bogeying three of the first four. He turned it around with a birdie on the 16th and played the rest of the day at even-par to post a final-round 72 and sit in tie for first with Noah Kent.

McCann won the first playoff hole with a par to secure the victory.

Kent finished runner-up, posting rounds of 76-72-72 for the weekend. Jonathan Mourin, who held the 36-hole lead, finished third at 5-over 221, while Parker Bell and Michael Mays finished tied for fourth at 6-over 222.

Girls 16-18 

Umezu picked up her first FJT win in wire-to-wire fashion, finishing the tournament at 17-over 233. After a first-round 78, Umezu posted a second-round 75, the low round of the weekend in the Girls Division, to take a two-shot lead into the final round.

The Port Saint Lucie native started the round with a 6-over front nine. She added two birdies on the back side to finish the day with an 8-over 80 and secure the five-shot victory.

Madison Tenore took home a second-place finish at 22-over 238, while Sabree Lefebvre finished third at 26-over 242.
