FJT Alums to Compete in ANWA

February 12, 2021

TAMPA, Fla. – For the second-straight year, Florida Junior Tour alumni will be competing in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.

Abbey Carlson, Auston Kim, Alexa Pano and Megan Schofill received invitations to play in the 2021 event. The tournament will be held April 1-4, the week before the Masters Tournament, in Augusta, Ga, after the 2020 event was cancelled due to COVID-19.

A field of 72 women amateurs will compete over 54 holes of stroke play, with a 36-hole cut to 30 players. The first 36 holes will be contested over two days at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans, Ga., and the final competitive round will take place at Augusta National Golf Club.

Carlson, Kim and Schofill will compete in the event for the first time, while Pano will make her second trip to Augusta.

Carlson graduated from Vanderbilt University in the Spring of 2020 with a degree in mechanical engineering. The Lake Mary native put together an outstanding career with the Commodores, being named to the First Team All-SEC and to the ANNIKA Award Watch List in her junior season.

Carlson also represented the United States at the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup, becoming the first Commodore woman to play in the Palmer Cup.

As a junior golfer, Carlson captured one win and recorded seven top-five finishes in her FJT career.

A junior at Vanderbilt, Kim has been named a WGCA honorable mention All-American, as well as named to the All-SEC first team and SEC All-Freshman team. She has also been named to the 2021 ANNIKA Award Watch List.

The Saint Augustine native earned an exemption into the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open and advanced to match play at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

Kim earned seven top-five finishes and one victory in her FJT career, along with capturing the 12 & Under Florida Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship title in 2012.

Pano was named the 2019 FSGA Women’s Amateur Player of the Year, becoming the first player in FSGA history to be named both the Girls’ Junior and Women’s Amateur Player of the Year. She captured the win at Jones-Doherty Amateur early in 2020 and added a top-five finish at the AJGA Rolex Tournament of Champions.

In 2019, Pano shared medalist honors with Jiarui Jin at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, and advanced through a playoff to qualify for her first U.S. Women’s Open Championship. She was also the youngest player in the field at the inaugural ANWA in 2019.

Schofill was named the 2020 FSGA Women’s Player of the Year, following a season that saw her raise the trophy at the 91st Florida Women’s Amateur Championship. The Monticello native overcame a 10-shot deficit to capture her first FSGA championship.

A sophomore at Auburn University, Schofill was named a WGCA honorable mention All-American and to the First Team All-SEC in her first season with the Tigers, as well as to the SEC All-Freshman Team. She also represented the United States at the Arnold Palmer Cup in December.

While competing on the Florida Junior Tour, Schofill collected 11 top-five finishes and one victory.

The 2021 Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women's Amateurs, the 2021 U.S. Women's Open, the 2021 Women's British Open, and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible for one year, provided she remains an amateur.
