Five Things to Know: Tour Championship

November 1, 2021

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The top junior golfers in the state of Florida will head to Winter Haven this week for the FJT Tour Championship. The Country Club of Winter Haven will play host to 72 junior golfers competing over 54 holes to crown four winners.

Here are five things to know before the championship begins.

By The Numbers

The 2021 Tour Championship is sure to be an exciting one with a strong field set to compete. Thirty-two of the competitors are ranked in the Junior Golf Scoreboard top-50 in Florida. Five FSGA champions will look to add another win, while 39 Florida Junior Tour winners look to continue a strong season. There will also be six juniors in the field who have verbal commitments to play in college.

Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Champions in the Mix

Nicholas Prieto, Angelica Holman and Jordan Fischer, the 2021 Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Amateur champions, will be in the field this weekend and will look to add to their already impressive resumes this season.

Prieto went wire-to-wire to capture the 67th Boys’ Junior Amateur Championship. He carded a 5-under 209 to secure the 11-shot victory, the largest margin of victory in FSGA history. Angelica Holman and Jordan Fischer came out on top at the 62nd Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship at Bradenton Country Club. Holman captured the 16-18 Division with a 3-over 217, while Fischer was victorious in the 13-15 Division at 1-over 215.

A Field Full of Winners

Thirty-nine FJT winners from this season will be competing later this week at Winter Haven, including Prieto and Fischer. Nine of those 39 winners have captured more than one FJT victory this season: Andres Barraza, Kayla Bryant, Shawn Coultoff, Jordan Fischer, Sophia Hong, Callen Hoskins, Sabree Lefebvre, Layla Pedrique and Nicole Yugay.

The Junior Amateur Match Play winners, Aaron Leach (16-18) and Coultoff (13-15), will also be in the field and will look to end their year with another victory.

Country Club of Winter Haven

The Country Club of Winter Haven is set to play host to its first Tour Championship. The course is no stranger to FSGA events however, as it has hosted a number of championships and FJT events. Competitors will be playing 36 holes on Saturday, followed by 18 holes on Sunday to decide the four champions. Campbell Kennedy and Elan Zhang both captured an FJT win at Winter Haven in May and have their eye on adding another title.

Points Champions to be Determined

As the 2021 FJT season comes to a close, two players have already secured the Points List Champions. Prieto has locked up the Boys (16-18) title with 8,483 points, and Coultoff has clinched the Boys (13-15) title with 10,823 points. The Girls (16-18) and Girls (13-15) are still on the line, with Sabree Lefebvre ahead in the Girls (16-18) and Jordan Fischer at the top in the Girls (13-15).
