Five Things to Know: International Four-Ball

February 14, 2022

TAMPA, Fla. –  The FSGA Championship season will get underway this week in Wellington with the 75th Women’s International Four-Ball at The Wanderers Club.

Here are five things to know before the championship begins on Wednesday.

Defending the Crown

Noelle Maertz and Sherry Herman survived a playoff to capture the Women’s International Four-Ball trophy in 2021. The pair fired a 5-under 67 in the final round to force a playoff. Herman, the 2020 Women’s Senior Match Play champion, chipped it in for birdie from 30 yards on the second playoff hole to secure the victory.

Maertz and Herman will look to become the ninth team in tournament history to capture back-to-back International Four-Ball titles.

Star-Studded Field

The 2022 field is made up of some of the best amateur golfers in the country. Thirteen players in the field have combined to win 26 USGA Championships, while there are 16 FSGA champions competing this week.

Ellen Port holds the most USGA titles in the field with seven victories, while Stasi isn’t that far behind with four USGA wins. There will also be the three most recent U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champions in the field this week: Blakesly Brock, Ina Kim-Schaad and Shannon Johnson.

Diane Lang, who will be competing with Therese Quinn, is a three-time USGA champion, and is also a three-time FSGA Player of the Year.

FSGA Players of the Year in the Hunt

This year’s field includes five past FSGA Players of the Year, including Stasi and Lang. The reigning back-to-back Women’s Senior Player of the Year, Kim Keyer-Scott is teaming it up with FSGA champion, Sara Matin, while the 2015 Senior Player of the Year, Gigi Higgins will team with FSGA champion, Lin Culver.

Mary Jane Hiestand, who is an eight-time FSGA Player of the Year, will be competing with Susan Temple, the 2018 Senior Match Play Champion.

Diverse Field

Sixteen states will be represented at this year’s championship, with 40 players hailing from outside the state of Florida. Other than Florida, Texas is the most represented state with seven players, followed by Virginia with five players.
