Stroke Play Title Defended

Katahira wins State Amateur Stroke Play Championship for second year

This past weekend, July 8-10, Mitsuki Katahiri continued her reign as the State Amateur Stroke Play Champion.  Held at Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach, she shot 71-70-71 for a tournament total of 4-under par 212.  Mitsuki secured her title over Meghan Stasi, of Oakland Park, who shot 75-70-70 and finished just three strokes back at 215.  In 2010, Mitsuki won the Stroke Play Championship at Old Marsh Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens.

Mary Jane Hiestand, of Naples, captured the Second Flight title with a three round total of 226.  The Third Flight was won by Mallory Viera of Howey-in-the-Hills, with a three day total of 236.  Flight Four proved to be close with a three way tie for first.  Tatiana Gammicchia of University Park, Heather Proctor of Silver Springs, and Tama Caldabaugh of Ponte Vedra Beach each finished with a total of 246.  The Fifth Flight was won by Brianna LaFoca of Windemere, who finished with a 259.

In the Flight One of the Field Division, Kathi Lundstrom, of Sewalls Point, took home 1st place as the gross winner with a total of 225, and Sandi St. Onge captured 1st net in their flight with a 215 total.  The gross champion in Flight Two was Mary Lou Edwards of Palm Harbor, and both Shauna Federico of Wellington and Kay Waltman of Miami claimed the net title with three day totals of 227.
