Plattner and Coultoff Win Big at Boys’ Junior

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It was Wyatt Plattner and Shawn Coultoff who raised the trophies at the 68th Boys’ Junior Amateur Championship on Friday at Seminole Legacy Golf Club. Plattner captured the victory in the Boys (16-18) division, while Coultoff was victorious in the Boys (13-15) division. 

Plattner fired three rounds of 68 to win his first FSGA championship. He carded a 12-under 204 to secure the seven-shot victory in the 16-18 division.

"I've played on the Florida Junior Tour and in FSGA events for almost eight years," Plattner said. "I've never gotten a win, so to win in my last one before I head off to college is really special."

Coultoff went wire-to-wire to capture his second FSGA championship, after winning the Junior Match Play Championship in 2021. He captured the six-shot Boys’ Junior win in the 13-15 division at 12-under 204.

"This means alot," Coultoff said. "I came close last year, but couldn't quite follow through. Started off today with a big lead, but Alex [Long] put a lot of heat on me wuickly and made it a little nerve racking. But I was able to make some putts down the stretch and get it done."

Beginning the day with a four-shot lead over the field, Plattner got off to a quick start with two birdies on his first four holes. The Sarasota native added back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth to make the turn at 3 under for the day.

Plattner continued his strong play on the back side, three straight birdies on Nos. 13-15 to move to 13 under for the championship. He finished the championship with a commanding seven-shot victory with a final-round 68.

Parker Bell took home a runner-up finish ay 5-under 211, finished the weekend with rounds of 70-70-71. Nicklas Staub used rounds of 71-71-70 to finish third at 4-under 212. Plattner, Bell and Staub were the lone players in the 16-18 division to post three under-par rounds for the championship.  

Coultoff began the final round with an eight-shot lead over the field, after a 7-under 65 in the second round. The Winter Garden native got his final round started with a bogey-free front side with two birdies on the sixth and ninth.

He finished the back nine at 2-over to post a final round 72 and capture the seven-shot victory. This is the second win of the year for Coultoff, who has captured a Florida Junior Tour win this season.

Alex Long used rounds of 72-68-71 to take home a runner-up finish in the 13-15 division at 5-under 211. Coultoff and Long were the lone players in the 13-15 field to finish under-par for the championships.

Cameron Reed and Lorenzo Rodriguez finished the week in a tie for third at 2-over 218.
