Stenstrom and Snyder Shine at Sandridge

August 20, 2023

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Hugo Stenstrom and Alexandra Snyder emerged victorious at Sandridge Golf Club. Stenstrom picked up his first win of the year and Snyder backed up her Futures Championship victory with her first win in the (13-15) Division.

Boys (13-15)

The Dunes course at Sandridge proved to be difficult with it's narrow fairways. Nevertheless, round one saw some stellar play with three players finishing the day under par. Leading the way at the conclusion of play was Maurice Hoben after an opening round of 3-under par, 69. Hoben started his day on the 10th hole and made five birdies in his opening nine. Hoben would get to 6-under par for the day after a birdie on the 1st hole. The 2026 grad would find difficulty on his second nine, making three bogies to finish his round at 3-under par. Following closely behind was the duo of Tristan Rhodenizer and Hugo Stenstrom at 2-under par. Rhodenizer's round was highlighted by three closing birdies on holes 7,8 and 9 while Stenstrom made the lone eagle of the day on the par-5, 12th hole.

Sunday's final round would see some exciting play in the final group with the lead constantly changing hands. There would be a three-way tie at the top at 3-under par after two holes with Rhodenizer making a birdie on the 1st hole and Stenstrom making a birdie of his own on the 2nd hole. The leaderboard would remain the same heading into the back nine with the trio remaining tied at 3-under par. The back nine proved to be tougher for the final pairing of the day. Rhodenizer would fall out of contention after a double bogey on the par-4, 13th hole. He would finish in a tie for third after a final round of 4-over par, 76. Standing on the 16th tee, Hugo Stenstrom would have a three-shot lead with three holes to play. An untimely double-bogey by the 2026 grad on the par-4, 16th hole would tighten things up between himself and the round 1 leader, Maurice Hoben. With two pars on the closing holes, Stenstrom would fend off any challengers to pick up his first victory of the year. He would finish the tournament with scores of 70-72--142 (-2) to win by three shots. Hoben would finish in a tie for third place at 2-over par. Sneaking his way up into a runners-up position was Charlie Hipp with scores of 76-69 -- 145. The St. Johns native would fire the low final round after making five birdies along with two bogies.

Girls (13-15)

The leaderboard was more condensed in the girls' division when the last putt dropped on Saturday afternoon. Taking the lead into the final round was Alexandra Snyder after an opening round of 1-over par, 73. The Orlando native made four bogies in her opening 11 holes, but quickly turned things around making birdies on holes 12, 14 and 15 to finish her day at 1-over par. The 2023 Futures Champion would look to add a fourth victory to her tally, including two FJT's and one state Championship. One shot behind Snyder was Lilliana Ford sitting at 2-over par after round one. Ford proved to be consistent on the day making an impressive 17 pars along with a lone double bogey on the par-5, 4th hole. Rounding out the top 3 was Fernanda Carrion at 3-over par, 75.

Looking for her first victory of the year in the (13-15) division, Alexandra Snyder would start the final round with only a one-shot cushion over her nearest competitor. The 2028 grad would play steady golf throughout the day, bouncing back from a string of bogies in the middle of her round to finish out her final round with five consecutive pars. This was enough for Snyder to capture the win after rounds of 73-77--150. Finishing in second place, two shots back of Snyder was Ana Boone with scores of 77-75--152.  Rounding out the top three with the low round of the day in the Girls division was Samantha Loninger after a closing round of even-par, 72. Loninger made four birdies throughout the day on holes 6,11,12 and 18.
