September 1, 2023

TAMPA, Fla. – Marc Dull, Joey Latowski, Scott Turner, Jonah Wasserstrom, Joe Alfieri, Miles McConnell and Mike Finster have earned places on the 12-man Florida Team for the 2023 Southeastern Challenge. They will compete against Alabama and Georgia in the 19th Southeastern Challenge Match on October 20-22 at Banyan Golf Club of Palm Beach in West Palm Beach.

The seven individuals have all contended in FSGA Championships over the past season, combine for 65 USGA championship appearances and have captured 34 FSGA championships.

Leading the two-year points list is the 2023 Florida Amateur champion, Marc Dull. The Lakeland native had a historic win at the Amateur Championship in June. Dull, a six-time FSGA Player of the Year, used the lowest under-par score in Florida Amateur history to become the first mid-amateur player to win the Amateur Championship since Richard Maddox in 2003.

Joey Latowski, the reigning Amateur and Mid-Amateur Player of the Year, will make his second Southeastern Challenge appearance. A three-time FSGA champion and Port Saint Lucie native, Latowski became just the eighth player to win two Mid-Amateur titles in FSGA history, with a victory at The Oaks Club in 2022.

Three-time FSGA champion, Scott Turner, a Stuart native, advanced to the Quarterfinals of the 2022 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Erin Hills and will look to find success again at the U.S. Mid-Amateur next week at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

Jonah Wasserstrom has found tremendous success this year, earning two top-four finishes and competing in two USGA championships. The Hollywood native finished runner-up at the Mid-Amateur Championship in May, following it up with a fourth-place finish at the Amateur Championship in June. He will be making his first Southeastern Challenge appearance after competing in the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships.

A 15-time FSGA champion and five-time Player of the Year, Joe Alfieri will be making his seventh Southeastern Challenge appearance. The Lutz native advance to the Quarterfinals of the 2022 Mid-Amateur Championship.

Back-to-back FSGA Senior Player of the Year, Miles McConnell, is back for another Southeastern Challenge. The Tampa native advanced to the Quarterfinals of the 2022 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, while also qualifying for the 2022 and 2023 U.S. Senior Open Championship.

Mike Finster is fresh off a run at the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, advancing to the Round of 32 at Martis Camp Club. Finster, a Saint Petersburg native, earned Low-Amateur honors at the 2023 Florida Senior Open and qualified for the 2023 U.S. Senior Open Championship.

The FSGA will name a second set of additional players to the 12-member team in September following the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship and the final Senior selections after the Senior Four-Ball Championship at the end of September.

The Southeastern Challenge is a tri-state biennial competition between Florida, Georgia and Alabama. The 12-player team is made up of eight amateur players and four senior amateurs. The Match is played over two days with four-ball, foursome and three-ball matches.

The Sunshine State will look to defend the Southeastern Challenge title following a win at Willow Point Country Club in Alabama in 2021. Florida holds the most overall team victories with nine, while Georgia holds eight and one for Alabama.
