Three Prevail at Women's Winter Series

DADE CITY, Fla. - Three players land the first triumph of the year in the Women’s Winter Series at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. Sokhary Pavese took home the win in the Mid-Amateur division, Amy Kennedy was victorious in the Senior division, and Debbie Austin captured the Super-Senior division. 

Mid-Amateur

Sokhary Pavese and Yin Cheng teed it up as the only players in the Mid-Amateur division at Lake Jovita. Battling the course and each other for the Mid-Amateur title, Pavese took the lead after shooting a 42 on her first nine holes of the day with four bogeys and one double bogey. Finishing the round with a 40, Pavese would end the day in the solo lead with an 82 and an 18 shot lead over Cheng. 

Starting off with a strong front nine, Pavese would secure her lead by shooting a 37 with two bogies and one birdie. Closing out the round with a 44, Pavese would be victorious with a 39-shot lead over Cheng.

Senior

Amy Kennedy and Suzanne Ricard started off strong during round one, both sharing the lead with a 76 on the board. Ricard obtaining her lead by shooting a 37-39 with one birdie and five bogeys. Kennedy, closing the gap after the first nine holes, shoots 39-37. 

Both players grinding the second round to be named the champion. Kennedy and Ricard battle it out, Kennedy double bogeying the first hole and Ricard only bogeying. The two players would finish the first nine holes only one stroke apart from each other with Ricard in the lead.

Kennedy would then gain some momentum on the back by following a bogey on ten with a birdie on the 11th hole and the 17th hole. Ricard with three bogeys on her back nine would shoot 39-40–79. Whereas Kennedy would finish the round 40-35–75 and claim the title for herself. 

Super-Senior

It was a close race during day one between Carol Klay, Judith Hensley, and Beth Pajak. All three players would be within a few shots of each other after the first nine holes. Klay and Hensley would tie the front nine shooting 47 and Pajak tailing the two shooting a 50 on her first nine holes. Klay would take the solo lead as all three ladies made the turn to the back nine. Klay finished her round at 47-45–92, Hensley finished at 47-51-98, and Pajak would finish one shot behind Hensley with a 50-49–99. 

The second round would bring out our victor, Debbie Austin, who started the day ten strokes behind Klay. Austin would go on to shoot the lowest round of the division with a 43-42–85. Capturing one birdie on the scorecard, Austin would claim her title as the champion of the Super Senior division. 

Carol Klay would finish second shooting 92-100–192.
