BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - This weekend, the (9-12) Division of the Florida Junior Tour traveled to the par-71 Links at Boynton Beach to compete in a 36-hole, stroke-play event. At the first FSGA event ever hosted at The Links at Boynton Beach, players were met with heavy winds throughout the weekend. The winds and quick greens created a great challenge for players looking to score low. When play had completed, Carson Brauth, Lily Wachter, and Madelyn Dickerson took home the trophies.
Boys (9-12)
At the end of Saturday’s first round, Axel Monssoh, a 2030 graduate from Miami, laid claim to a four-stroke lead after recording the only under-par, first-round score throughout the entire field. Monssoh got off to a hot start with an eagle on his first hole of the day, the par-4 10th hole. The Miami native would go on to add another eagle and three birdies through his first nine holes to make the turn at 3-under par, the score he would ultimately finish the day with after an even-par second nine. Carson Brauth, a 2030 graduate from Palm Beach Gardens, would head into the final round in second place with a score of 1-over par, 72, thanks to three birdies over his final nine holes.
Carson Brauth started moving up the leaderboard with three birdies in the first six holes of his second round to make the turn at 1-under par. Finishing with a birdie on the last hole for an even par round moved Brauth into a tie for first with Monssoh. Monssoh also finished with a birdie on the final hole for a 2-over, 144 total. Brauth and Monssoh faced off in a playoff to determine the champion. It was Brauth’s birdie on the third playoff hole that secured his first FJT win of the year. Brauth was crowned FJT champion for the fourth time at the Links at Boynton Beach.
Girls (11-12)
Two players would hold a share of the lead at 2-over par, 73, through 18 holes of competition. Lily Wachter, a 2030 graduate from Saint Augustine, carded three birdies, including one on the par-5 11th hole, the most difficult par-5 on the course, to take her share of the lead. The Saint Augustine native was joined by Lilly Parker, a 2030 graduate from North Palm Beach. Parker played the front-nine at 3-over par, but would convert three birdies on her final nine holes to get to 2-over par for the round.
Consistency was key for Wachter who posted a second round of 73 to capture the solo lead on Sunday. Despite a jump up the leaderboard from Orlando native, Iris Lee, Wachter held onto first place. Lee erased a three-stroke deficit to finish tied for second with Lilly Parker and Claire Yang at 6-over par 148. Wachter, who was champion of the 2024 Drive, Chip, and Putt Girls’ 10-11 division, won her first FJT by two strokes at 4-over par 146.
Girls (9-10)
Through 18 holes, Madelyn Dickerson, a 2033 graduate from Boca Raton, jumped out to a three-stroke lead with a score of 4-over par, 75. After completing her first nine holes at 7-over par, the Boca Raton native would catch fire, playing the back-nine bogey-free at 3-under par. Mia Heuberger, a 2031 graduate from Palm Beach Gardens, would enter the final round in second place after she carded three birdies en-route to a round of 7-over par, 78.
In the final round, Dickerson and Heuberger would continue to pull away from their fellow competitors, but could not separate from themselves. With just three holes to play, Heuberger held a one-shot lead, and a bogey from Dickerson on the par-3 7th extended that lead to two. But the tables would turn once again as Dickerson played the final two holes at 1-under par, resulting in her jumping ahead of Heuberger, who bogeyed each of the final two holes. Dickerson would end up with a one-shot victory, her second on the Florida Junior Tour.
