Randy Briggs Elected FSGA President

The Florida State Golf Association is proud to announce that Randy Briggs will serve as the new president of the association for 2014-2015. Briggs, 65, of Ocala, was elected President at the FSGA’s Annual Meeting on November 22, 2013. He succeeds Jim Applegate who served as President in 2012 and 2013.

Randy will lead the volunteer Executive Committee in directing the Association’s professional staff and more than 450 volunteers throughout the state. Randy has served on the Board since 2002, and was elected to the Executive Committee in 2006. Randy has spent the last two years serving as the Vice President.

Randy has been affiliated with the FSGA for nearly 50 years, and is a past scholarship award recipient, and a three time State Champion, capturing the 1996 Four-Ball Championship, and the 2006 & 2010 Senior Four-Ball Championship. Randy currently resides in Ocala, and is a member at the Country Club of Ocala.

Randy is a fifth-generation Marion County resident, and served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S Army following his graduation from college. Randy returned to law school at the University of Florida, and graduated in the top 10% of his law school class in 1975, with several academic honors. Randy returned to his home of Ocala in 1977 and joined the firm of Ayres, Cluster, Curry, Meffert & McCall, P.A., and was made a partner the following year when the firm was renamed Ayres, Cluster, Curry, McCall & Briggs, P.A. He remained a partner in that firm for 22 years until he opened The Briggs Law Firm in 2000, where he currently operates with his son Bo in Ocala.

Others elected to the Executive Committee include: Chuck Phillips as Vice President, Steve Carter as Secretary/Treasurer, Kevin Hammer, Beth Sholar, and Jim Weick as Directors-at-Large and Jim Applegate as the Immediate Past President.  Members elected to the Board of Directors include: Sharon Baerenklau, Rick Greenleaf, Dave Jungk, Tom Keedy, Karen Korf and Catherine Richey.
