PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – PGA National's Fazio Course served host for the Summer Mixed Championship, where 51 teams teed it up in hopes of coming out on top.
Championship Division
Caroline Nemes and Cade Alfieri started the championship with an opening round of 7-under par, 65 to take a one shot lead over the field. The duo capitalized on the Four-Ball format, each birding different holes in round one to set the tone for the remainder of the event, however, with three teams close behind, it was anyone's game heading into round two. Jia Bryant/Liam Fernandez, Karen Lotta/Brad Little, and the defending champions Kim Benedict/Carl Santos-Ocampo, finishded round one at 6-under par.
Sunday's round got off to a hot start. The team of Bryant and Fernandez started thier round carding five birdies and an eagle in their opening nine holes to take the lead from Nemes and Alfieri, however once making the turn Bryant and Fernandez cooled off shooting 1-over par, 37 on the closing nine. Benedict and Santos-Ocampo made a late charge jumping up the leaderboard to only one shot behind with one to play. A bogey on the difficult 18th hole opened the door for Nemes and Alfieri who posted a par on their closing hole and securing a two shot victory.
Forward Division
Judy Stillman and Rick Butler took a quick lead in round one shooting a 5-under par round of 67 over Man Zhang and Brad Kroll who would find themselved five shots back with their opening round of 72.
Stillman and Butler did not slow down in round two. Managing the golf course well, the team put togehter a 2-under par round to secure a three shot victory over Zhang and Kroll. Also having a solid final round was the team of Sheri Nygaard and Jeff Nygaard who put together a closing round of 3-under, 69 jumping them up the leaderboard three places and securing a third place finish.
