Figus and Zhou Victorious at Wyndemere CC

May 17, 2015

The Florida Junior Tour ventured southwest this weekend to Wyndemere Country Club, where scattered thunderstorms threatened the completion of the scheduled thirty-six hole individual stroke play event. A lengthy weather delay late Saturday afternoon pushed the completion of round one to Sunday morning. Round two began promptly at eight-thirty, but severe weather in the afternoon ultimately called for the final round to be indefinitely suspended, with the Girls Division completing the thirty-six hole tournament, and the Boys Division being shortened to an eighteen hole event. The Florida State Golf Association would like to thank Wyndemere Country Club for hosting this event, and the patience and dedication of the participants and spectators throughout the weekend.

The Boys Division concluded after round one with four participants under par. Amadeo Figus of Port Saint Lucie lead the first round recording a four-under-par 68. Eric Berggrenn of Wyndemere, and Deven Raberio of Tampa tied for second, carding a two-under-par 70. Anthony Muttillo of Boca Raton was one shot back of them, with a one-under-par 71. Figus’ 68 earned him first place honors—his second Florida Junior Tour victory this year.

In the Girls Division, Jennifer Zhou of Longwood went wire-to-wire to take first place honors in the Girls Division, finishing 74-76—150. Zhou had a four shot lead going into round two over Georgia Oboh of Rieria Beach, who recorded a 78-75—153 to finish second. Meiyi Yan of Lake Mary took third finishing 79-78--157. All three ladies remained first, second, and third respectively throughout the entire thirty-six hole event. This was Zhou’s first ever victory on the Florida Junior Tour.

The next Florida Junior Tour event will be the FJT 54-hole Majors over Memorial Day weekend. The Boys and Girls 13-15 Divisions, and the Girls 16-18 Division will be conducted at Orange County National in Winter Garden. Both Figus and Zhou will be competing  there in their respective divisions. The Boys 16-18 Division 54-hole Major will be conducted at Eagle Creek Golf and Country Club in Naples.
