Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North & South Champions Crowned

May 30, 2004

The North Championship was played at Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club and Miromar Lakes Beach and Golf Club hosted the South Championship on May 29-30.

Ken Godwin, from Ocala, and Kelly Gosse, from Inverness, won the North Championship shooting a 68-67—135. In a tie for second place firing a two-day total 137 was the team from Tampa, John Gabler and Frank Griffin, and first round leaders, Andy Higgins and Mike Stevens, both of Ponte Vedra Beach. Curtis Madson, of Mount Dora, and Doug Snoap, of Apopka, finished three strokes back from the leaders shooting a 70-68—138.

In the South Championship, Bill Griffith, of Miami Shores, and Marc Rosenbaum, from Hollywood, claimed the top spot after shooting 68-63—131. Last year in the South Championship, they tied for fourth place. Tom Fiocchi, of Palm Beach Gardens, and Michael Nealy, from Boca Raton, beat their performance last year as they fired a pair of 66’s to place second in this year’s Championship. Last year, Fiocchi and Nealy placed third in the South Championship.

The Mid-Amateur Four-Ball North Championship featured 52 teams while the South had 38 teams. Both North and South sites are 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners, each playing his own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole. Amelia Island Plantation will host the 2005 Mid-Am Four-Ball North while the South will be played at Inverrary Country Club in Lauderhill.
