State Match Play Championship Field Complete

July 6, 2004

The field is now set with 96 players competing in the Florida State Match Play Championship at Indian River Club in Vero Beach on August 5-8.

All players are guaranteed an 18-hole seeding round and at least one round of match play. After the seeding round, the field will be broken into a Championship flight of 32 players and four additional flights of 16 players. A winner will be decided in each of the five flights with the Match Play Champion from the flight of 32.

All non-exempt competitors play an 18-hole stroke play seeding round on Thursday, August 5 to determine their flights. Players earn exempt status by one of three categories, 2003 Mid-Amateur Champion, 2004 State Amateur Champion or 2003 Match Play Semifinalists. All five flights begin the match play competition on Friday, August 6 with the Championship flight also playing in the afternoon. All flights will play two matches on Saturday, August 7 with the finals on the morning of Sunday, August 8.

Last year, Andy Purnell, of Jacksonville, defeated Joe Lamielle, from Sarasota, in 19 holes at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland. Purnell was named the 2003 Florida State Player-of-the-Year. Both players, Purnell and Lamielle, are in this year’s field.
