Brindell, Turner Share Public Links Lead

Jimi Brindell, of Tequesta, and Scott Tuner, of Palm City, posted an even par 72 in the first round to lead the field of 85. The 2005 Mid-Amateur Champion Jon Veneziano, of Mount Dora, sits one back from the leaders at 73. Three players recorded a 74 while nine competitors shot 75 including two-time champion Robert Parker. Parker, of Sanford, won the 2004 and 2005 Public Links Championship. Paul Melson, of Plantation, the 2001 champion, also posted a 75 in the first round.

The Public Links Championship is open to bona fide public course players who are not members of a private club and also do not have a handicap index any higher than 6.4. Competitors play 18 holes of stroke play on each of the three days with the field flighted after 36 holes.
