Women's Southeastern Challenge Match

The Amelia Island Club at Long Point - Amelia Island

July 30-31, 2018

FL Misses SE Challenge Title by 1/2 Point

Georgia captured the 4th Women's Southeastern Challenge Match, hosted by Florida at the Amelia Island Club at Long Point, with 25 1/2 points, while Florida finished just half a point behind with 25, and Alabama earned 12 1/2 points.

Over three sets of matches, Florida and Georgia were neck and neck. In Monday's Four-Ball matches, Team Florida earned 3 1/2 points with wins by the teams of Caldabaugh/Keyer-Scott 2&1, Schiavone/Tuttle and Freedman/Tomlinson both won 1 up, and Herrick/Martin halved their match against Alabama. Georgia earned 5 points, and Alabama struggled with just a half point.

Day One continued into afternoon foursome matches. In true Florida fashion, the matches were suspended for nearly two hours due to inclement weather. Once play resumed, all matches headed back out into a steady rain where Team Florida fought back to prove Florida girls can play in the rain. Florida earned 7 points in the afternoon to finish Day One half a point back from Georgia with 10 1/2 and 11 respectively. Alabama rounded out Day One with 5 1/2 points.

During Tuesdays three-ball matches, Florida and Georgia battled to the very end. With two matches left out, Florida was 1 1/2 points behind Georgia. Alabama and Georgia won their final matches to solidify Georgia's victory by half a point. Florida's seniors put on a show, adding to the team's total in every match. Ponte Vedra local, Tama Caldabaugh was undefeated in all of her matches!

The Women's Southeastern Challenge Matches are a biennial Ryder Cup style match play competition pitting twelve amateurs and four Seniors, from Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The Matches consist of four-ball, foursome and individual matches over two days, with one point awarded to the winning team for each match. One-half point is awarded to each side for halved matches.
