Earsley and Cherrix Win at PGA

The Florida State Mid-Amateur Four-Ball South Championship was won by Steve Earsley and Vincent Cherrix at PGA National.

Earsley, of Stuart, and Cherrix, of Pompano Beach, followed their first round 10-under par 62 with a 2-under par 70 to dish two strokes ahead of the field. Bartow's Todd Wall and. Davenport's Richard Pepin Jr. shot 68-66 to finish in second. The Sarasota duo of Len Lasinsky and Charles Walters Jr. shot 67-68 to finish in third.

The Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championships were for amateur golfers over the age of 25. The competitions used four-ball stroke play format. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners with each playing their own ball. The lower score of the partners was the score for the hole.

The championships are the third and fourth of 17 state championships conducted annually by the Florida State Golf Association. The FSGA was formed in 1913 to preserve, promote, and protect amateur golf in the state.
