Senior Four-Ball Champions Crowned

The team of Roger Dean and Mike Miller fired a final round of eight-under par 64 to capture the 39th Senior Four-Ball Championship as Pete Andrews and Skip Lujack captured the Super Senior Division at The Indian River Club, in Vero Beach, on October 1-2.

The duo from Ormond Beach, Roger Dean and Mike Miller, posted a four-under par 68 in the first round to trail the first round leaders by two strokes heading into the final round of play. In the final round, Dean and Miller caught fire, posting an eight-under par 64 to hold off the Defending Champions, Steve Earsley, of Hobe Sound, and Doug LaCrosse, of Tampa, by one stroke to capture the Championship.  With this win, Dean and Miller earned an exemption into the 2014 Four-Ball Championship held at Grand Cypress Golf Club, in Orlando.  The first round leaders, Mike Barkley, of Clearwater, and Philip Powell, of Saint Petersburg, finished alone in third place after their rounds of 66-69--135.

In the Super Senior Division, the team of Pete Andrews, of Lithia, and Skip Lujack, of Brandon, put together a dominating performance to win by four strokes. Andrews and Lujack posted a first round of five-under par 67 to hold a share of the lead heading into the final round. Andrews & Lujack picked up where the left off on Wednesday, posting another round of five-under par 67, to capture the title. Four teams finished tied for second place including: The team from Ocala, Randy Briggs and Berger Warner, the team of Ben Kenny, from Alpharetta, and Edward Garver, of Land O’ Lakes, the team of Ken Couturier, from Melbourne, and Ray Darmstadt, of Cocoa Beach, and the team of Tom Austin, from Lake Wales, and Tommy Piazza, of Sarasota, all posted a tournament total of six-under par 138.

The Senior Four-Ball is a perfect opportunity for a golfing road trip with a buddy.  Two days of four-ball flighted after day one, make for an enjoyable and competitive golfing environment.   The championship has two divisions, Senior and a Super Senior.  To play in the Super Senior Division both players need to be 65 years old as of the first day of the Championship. 

Indian River Club is located in South Vero Beach and is a first-class facility that is always in immaculate condition.  The Indian River Club has hosted a number of FGSA Championships, Winter Series Events, and US Open Local qualifiers.  Vero Beach area boasts many great restaurants and hotels-many of which are right on the beach!

Eligibility

Male amateurs must be age 55 or older as of October 1, 2013, and both entrants must be members of the FSGA.

Entry Fee

$320 per team ($340 per team - members who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap). Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field.

Championship

36 holes of four-ball stroke play.  The lowest team score for 36 holes in each division will be the Champion. If necessary, there will be a hole by hole play-off to determine the champion in each division. It is the player's responsibility to be present for any play-off.

Championship Field Size

48 teams; 96 players

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately
6,400-6,500 yards (Senior)
6,100-6,200 yards (Super Senior).

Flights

After 18 holes. The number of flights will be based on the number of teams and/or the range of scores.

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one month prior to the championship, however practice rounds must be played after 11:00 AM. Due to maintenance on the Monday prior to the Championship the club will start practice round tee times at 12 PM.  The price for a practice round is $30.00 + tax. Please call (772) 569-5066 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Divisons

55-64 (Senior), 65 and over (Super-Senior). All teams will compete in the age division commensurate with the youngest player's age as of the first day of the Championship.

Defending Champions

Steve Earsley and Doug LaCrosse shot 68-67--135 at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club to claim the overall title. Ron Cleland and Edward Craig won the Super-Senior Division by firing rounds of 68-67--135 and defeated Curtis Madson and Jim Carley on the first playoff hole.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees. 

Spectators and Caddies

Spectators and caddies are always welcome at FSGA Championships. Only players are allowed to ride in carts.  If a player employs a caddie, the caddie MUST walk and the player's clubs must remain on the golf cart.

Scorecards

Only one of the partners per team need sign the score card and each score to count must be individually identifiable.  See Rule 31-3.

The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.
