July 28, 2017

With the Junior Florida Cup to begin Monday at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club, it's time to meet your 2017 North & South Teams.

North Team - 24 Season Wins

Justin Ortiguera - Runner-Up at C.C. of Winter Haven

"I have had four hole-in-ones, and my first two were on the same hole."

Emily Staples - Champion at Riomar C.C.

"I love to travel, listen to music, and my favorite food is sushi. When I have free time, the beach is my favorite place to go."

Gray Albright - Runner-Up at Orange Co. National Major

"When I was about eight, I was playing the Baseball Name Game with some friends. After about 20 minutes, I ran out of 'S' names and made up Smitty Jenkins. I couldn't convince them that was a real player because it wasn't. I've been nicknamed Smitty ever since."

Lauren Miller - Champion at LPGA International Golf Club & Southwood C.C.

"I have had four hole-in-ones. I'm the youngest of five kids and I've been an aunt since I was seven years old. I enjoy playing the guitar, playing basketball, and skiing when I'm not golfing."

Karoline Tuttle - Champion at Eagle Lake G.C. & LPGA International G.C.

"I was the Girls 12 World Champion and U.S. Kids Golf and Honda National Player of the Year. I've played in pro-ams with Paula Creamer and Billy Horschel. I also have a twin, Karter, and he's 2 hours and 42 minutes older."

Jason Duff - Champion at Mark Bostick G.C. at UF

"I've been a die-hard Washington Redskins fan practically since I was born. I also enjoy target shooting and fishing in my spare time."

Mimi Chen - Champion at West Orange C.C.

"I have been playing in Florida Junior Tour events since I was 11 years old, and this is my second Junior Florida Cup. I have a superstition that I always have to use my lucky marker on the last day of a tournament."

Alex Lee - Champion at Rocky Bayou C.C.

"I'm from South Korea and I like to watch soccer in my free time and I aspire to play Division I golf."

Jacob Penny - 2016 Tour Championship Champion, C.C. of Winter Haven Champion, & Trump National Doral Major Champion

"Last year's Junior Florida Cup was easily the most fun I've had on the golf course. This year it happens to be my last junior event before college. It's my favorite event to play in and a huge honor to be able to represent the North Team again!"

Juliana Camargo - Three-time Runner-Up (Riomar C.C., Rocky Bayou C.C., & Fairwinds G.C.)

"My name is Juliana Camargo but my family calls me 'nena', which means baby in Spanish. My favorite club is my 58 degree lobe wedge and I believe in order to have a good round, I have to start with eight tees in my hair."

Jenny Kim - 23rd Girls' Junior Champion & Champion at Orange Co. National Major and Fairwinds G.C.

"Something people don't know about me is that I love to go deep sea fishing."

Brendan Valdes - Champion at Riomar C.C., Juliette Falls, & Kingsway C.C.

"Before I golfed, I competed in gymnastics. During that time, I won many events and even represented team Florida at the Regional Championships in North Carolina, where we finished in first place. When I broke my hand doing a back flip, I decided to golf full-time."

Brett Schell - Champion at Rocky Bayou G.C. & Southwood G.C.

"Even though I love golf, I would rather be fishing than playing golf. Although I might not look like it, I'm known for having a sense of humor."

Peyton Billings - Champion at Stone Creek G.C.

"My greatest golf memory is winning an FJT event because everyone wants a bag. My second greatest moment has to be hitting my ball into a top of a palm tree and making a 10 on a par four and losing by six."

Johnny Tucker - T4 at Southern Dunes Golf & C.C.

"I enjoy golf, fishing, and boating. We vacation in Captiva Island every year and I look forward to it each summer."

Tyler Wilkes - 63rd Boys' Junior Champion & Champion at C.C. of Winter Haven, Orange Co. National Major, & West Orange C.C.

"The only swing coach I've ever had is my father."

Justin Armstrong - North Team Captain

"One time, I burnt Kraft Mac & Cheese Easy Mac. My cooking skills have not improved since. Hopefully I make a much better captain than I do a cook."

South Team - 14 Season Wins

Marc Kaneko-Fujii - Semifinalist in 2017 Junior Amateur Match Play

"It has been a great year and I'm glad I can finish it off with a fun and exciting event."

Leopoldo Herrera - Champion at Don Veller Seminole G.C.

"One fun fact about me is that I'm a lefty but I play golf right-handed. My favorie golf memory is when I shot 27 on the back nine in the final round of a tournament. One of my main superstitions is to always wear a white hat and white pants to a tournament.

Sarah Noonan - Round of 16 in Junior Amateur Match Play Championship

"I was born in Germany and love to travel. I also can't wait to go play collegiate golf for Georgia Southern in the fall.

Taylor Roberts - Champion at Orange Co. National Major, Fairwinds G.C., & Viera East G.C.

"My grandmother introduced me to the game of golf when I was 10 years old, and I only started using a swing instructor for the past year. My superstition is that on the final round of every tournament I wear the same pair of socks."

Casey Weidenfeld - Champion at Kingsway C.C.

"I am an avid reader and writer, as I have published two books. I aspire to be a screenwriter and pursue my golf career. I am extremely superstitious and even travel with a lucky necklace."

Max Coutsolioutsos - Champion at Plantation Golf & C.C.

Brett Roberts - 2017 Junior Match Play Champion & Champion at Eagle Lakes G.C.

"I've marked my golf ball the same since I started with just one dot on the top right corner of the Titleist. I played soccer, baseball, and basketball when I was younger."

Luke Gifford - Champion at Quail Ridge C.C. & Palm Aire C.C.

"I was first introduced to golf by my Grandfather, who still attends many of my tournaments. When I'm not playing golf, I enjoy spending time with my family in the mountains of North Carolina or playing a heated game of table tennis with my sister, Kate."

Drew Angelo - T4 at Amelia National G.C.

"I enjoy waterskiing and I'm in the process of getting my boater's license. I had fun climbing Dunns River Falls in Jamaica this summer while on a cruise with my family."

"I'm a camp counselor for little kids at Don Law Golf Academy. They say I'm the best Gatorade maker."

One of my favorite memories was winning the Florida U.S. Kids State Tournament last year shooting five-under par, 73 & 66, to win by nine shots. When I'm not golfing, I love hula hooping to fun music, swimming, ping pong, and playing with my dog."

Cole Castro - 3rd at Sugar Mill C.C.

"I primarily played baseball growing up but switched to golf as a freshman in high school. I enjoy fishing as well as traveling, and I'm going to Florida Gulf Coast University to play collegiate golf."

Jillian Bourdage - Champion at Eagle Creek Golf & C.C. and Timacuan Golf & C.C.
