June 20, 2019

JUPITER, Fla.  Following the first round of play at the 102nd Amateur Championship, it is Drew Angelo who sits at the top of the leaderboard. In total, 168 players teed it up on Thursday at The Loxahatchee Club and Johnathan’s Landing.

Angelo carded a 5-under 67 in the first round at the Loxahatchee Club. The Bradenton native began the day on the back nine, recording four birdies and a bogey, totaling a first-nine 33. He began the front-nine birding two of the first four holes. The incoming University of North Florida freshman finished his round with a birdie on the ninth.

“I hit a good drive, probably the best drive of the day. Had a nice flip wedge in there, stuck it to about three feet. Not a bad way to end a round.” Angelo said of his birdie on the ninth.

Last year’s runner-up, Marc Dull posted a bogey-free 4-under 68 in the first round at the Loxahatchee Club. Dull recorded an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole along with two birdies to finish the day in second place.

“I’m very motivated. I’m bringing everything I’ve got,” Dull said.

Chip Brooke carded the low round of the day at Jonathan’s Landing with a 3-under 69. He heads into the second round in third place, after finishing the day with a bogey-free round and three birdies.

Four players are tied for fourth place at 2-under 70: Leopoldo Herrera, Joseph Latowski, Carl Santos-Ocampo and Daniel Robinson.
