With the last major being at Royal Liverpool Golf Club and the rough grown out, getting the ball in the fairway will be crucial. During the course rating process, one of the obstacles evaluated is green target.
Green target is the correlation between the green size and length of the approach shot. Quite simply, the longer the shot, the smaller the green, the harder the shot becomes. The shorter the shot, the bigger the green, the easier the shot becomes.
Green target length can be adjusted based on effective playing length corrections such as roll, dogleg, force layup, layup, elevation, and altitude. In addition, visibility challenges to the green from the approach shot and mid-season firmness/ softness could impact how the green target is adjusted.
Keep an eye out of the 14th hole with some of the green visibily blind with bunker blocking it off.
How would you characterize the green targets at your club?
