Knight & Hurst Win At Lake Jovita

Cameron Knight and Vicky Hurst won the 16-18 division titles in the Florida Junior Tour (FJT) event at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City on December 3-4, 2005.

In the boys division of 60 juniors, Cameron Knight, 17, from Dade City, captured his second FJT title shooting a two-day total of 10-under par 134 to win by nine strokes on his home course of Lake Jovita. Knight, the 2003-2004 FJT Player-of-the-Year, made only one bogey during the tournament to fire a 66-68. Knight finished second in the 2005 Boys’ Junior Championship and has four second place finishes in his FJT career. James Byrd and Matt Cooney tied for second place with a tournament total of 143. Byrd, 16, from Windermere, posted a 74-69 while Matt Cooney, 16, of Tampa, also playing his home course, shot 71-72 for his best finish in an FJT event. A highlight of the tournament came in the second round when James Field, 17, of Pinecrest, aced the 4th hole from 180 yards with a 5-iron. Field posted a 70-78—148 for sixth place. The boys 16-18 division played the South Course from 6,871 yards.

Vicky Hurst, 15, from Melbourne, won her fourth FJT 16-18 age division title at Lake Jovita blasting a 74-72—146. In the second round, Hurst shot a 40 on the front nine and made four birdies for a 32 on the back nine to lead the field of 18 girls. Hurst, who is playing up in this event, was named the 2004-2005 FJT Player-of-the-Year and Florida Women’s State Golf Association (FWSGA) Junior Player-of-the-Year winning the Junior Girls’ Championship. Playing in her first FJT event of the season, Andrea Messer, 15, of Belleair, placed second shooting a 76-75—151. Messer, also playing up at Lake Jovita, won an event last season in the 13-15 age division and finished second in the Junior Girls’ Championship. Evan Jensen, 16, from Belleair, and Jessica Schall, 13, of Lake Mary, tied for third with a two-day total of 152. Jensen was named last season’s FJT girls 13-15 age division Player-of-the-Year. The girls field played Lake Jovita’s South Course from 5,879 yards.

Eligibility
Male or female amateur golfers that are members of the FJT may apply for participation. Entries are subject to rejection at any time, including during the event by the FJT. The reason for rejection may include unbecoming behavior. Please see the Code of Conduct for further details.

Application Procedure
Tournament applications for this event may enter on-line at www.floridajuniortour.org. Players must complete a membership form, read the Tournament Policies and pay the membership fees before the tournament application will be processed. Entries must be received by 4:30 PM EST of the closing date. Telephone and fax requests will not be considered for selection. Players will receive an e-mail that their entry has been received and a second e-mail will be sent when the players is accepted into the field. As a player is not automatically confirmed into the tournament, travel arrangements should not be made until the second confirmation e-mail is received.

Entry Fee Includes
The entry fee of $95 includes Saturday and Sunday tournament rounds of golf, range balls prior to the tournament rounds and a tee prize.

Walking and Pull Carts
Players must walk and carry their clubs during the competition rounds. Pull carts are permitted.

Directions
Lake Jovita Golf and Country is located in Dade City, just 30 minutes North of Tampa. Traveling on I-75 take Exit 59 - SR 52 in St. Leo. Travel East on SR 52 for approx four miles until SR 52 dead ends. Turn right and Lake Jovita is one mile on your left hand side.

Tees To Play
Tees are not set until the tournament staff arrives on site. Tournament set up can change, including yardages, to offset inclement weather or other course conditions (i.e. wet course conditions). Typical yardages are below:

  • Boys 16-18 will play approximately 6,800 yards
  • Girls 16-18 will play approximately 5,800 yards

Registration
Registration will be available in front of the golf shop beginning at 9:30 AM prior to the first round. ALL players are expected to register. First round pairings, pace of play policy, and general tournament information will be distributed at registration.

Tee Times & Pairings
First round pairings and starting times will be available on the FJT website, www.floridajuniortour.org, three days after the closing date. After the completion of the first round all competitors will be regrouped by score within age group for their next round. Final round pairings will be available approximately one hour after the final score has been posted. They will be posted to the FJT website, on the scoreboard, and in the golf shop. It is the player's responsibility to be at his/her respective tee at least 10 minutes prior to teeing off. We recommend that you always see your tee time in black and white and if you still have questions, please contact a FJT official at the host facility.

Rules
USGA Rules of Golf will govern play. Local rules will be distributed at registration on the day of the first round.

Pace of Play
Pace of play will be strictly enforced with anticipated rounds less than 4 hours and 30 minutes. We strongly recommend that all players read and understand the FJT Pace of Play Policy. The Pace of Play policy can be reviewed on the FJT website under the Tournaments section.

Spectator Carts
Spectators may be authorized to rent carts for $20 plus tax per day, but must follow the published policy (available on site). Lake Jovita has a limited number of carts and there might not be enough carts to satisfy the specatators' needs. More information is available on the FJT website under the Parents section.
