March 20-21, 2010

First Ever Co-Champions Crowned

Thunderstorms and a flooded course shortened the Florida Junior Tour (FJT) event at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills to 18 holes. The weather didn’t stop Sawyer Shaw and JD Tomlinson Jr. or Yueer (Cindy) Feng. All players shot a one-par round of 73 to top their divisions and grab their respective titles.

For the first time in FJT history Co-Champions were awarded in the Boys Division. The final found was cancelled due to inclement weather when thunderstorms rolled in at 12:15 on Sunday. Sawyer Shaw, of West Palm Beach and JD Tomlinson Jr., of Gainesville grabbed first place honors both firing a one-over par 73. This is Shaw’s fifth victory of the season, and for Tomlinson this is his first career FJT title. Kevin Jorden, from Juno Beach, Chase Koepka, from West Palm Beach, Jeffrey Meltzer, from Bradenton, and Kentaro Toyota, from Lutz, all finished tied for third place by carding a two-over par 74.

In the Girls 16-18 Division, Yueer (Cindy) Feng, of Orlando, continued her exceptional play. She used three birdies to fire a one-over par round of 73 for a one-stroke victory. Feng has won in all four events she has competed in during the 2009-2010 season, and this is her 16th career FJT victory. Finishing second in the Girls Division was Simin Feng, of Orlando, who carded a two-over par 74. Grabbing third place honors was Nicole Quinn, from Windermere, who carded a three-over par 75.

All tournament rounds are being played on the El Campeon Course.

Taking center stage in this land of year-round sunshine are 36 holes of championship golf.  Boasting rare tee-to-green elevations of 85 feet, towering forests and sparkling, spring-fed lakes, these spectacular courses are memorable no matter what the score.

Revered as one of Florida 's finest, El Campeón, The Champion, was designed by George O'Neil of Chicago in 1917 and further enhanced in 1926 by Charles E. Clarke of Troon, Scotland.  The course was ranked in the top 10 of Florida's 1,400+ courses.
