Severs Brothers Go the Distance at the Four-Ball
BRADENTON, Fla. — It was truly anyone’s title to take until the final putt hit the bottom of the cup. But when it did, it was Preston and Parker Severs who raised the trophy and claimed the title of 76th Four-Ball Champions. The duo posted rounds of 64-62-61--187 to reach a remarkable 26-under par.
From the opening tee shots to the final moments, it was a relentless battle. The leaderboard was a blur of movement, shifting with nearly every refresh, as team after team made a charge. It was a shootout from the start, and no team was backing down.
Gunnar Green and Bryan Hernandez were the first to reach 20-under and claim the solo lead, but they were quickly surrounded by a pack of teams at 19-under, all within striking distance. It seemed like everyone had a chance this Sunday.
As the final round unfolded, the clubhouse lead changed hands repeatedly. Henry Robards and Nolan Harper surged to 21-under with a 9-under final round. Oscar Crowe and TJ Thompson followed with 24-under, only to be passed by Carl Santos-Ocampo and Nick Solimene at 25-under.
The Severs brothers, one hole in front of the overnight leaders, had had a chance to grab the lead outright on the 17th, but both birdie attempts narrowly missed, leaving the pressure squarely on the 18th hole.
Two solid shots from the brothers put them in scoring position on the 18th, but nothing is ever certain in the game of golf. Parker was up first– just wide. That left the stage to Preston, with one final opportunity to seal the victory.
A deep breath and the sound of a ball falling into the cup, the brothers were crowned champions.
The Severs brothers came close to capturing the title last year, finishing in a strong third place. This time, they returned with a renewed determination. “I think last year we were super close, just kind of a rough front nine every day. This year we stayed super focused,” Preston said. He added, “This was my favorite tournament of my life,” he shared.
Carl Santos-Ocampo and Nick Solimene claimed solo second, while a tie for third went to TJ Thompson & Oscar Crowe and Bryan Hernandez & Gunnar Green.
