FJT at Temple Terrace G&CC (13-15)

Vogelsong & Yu Win in Tampa

Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and great course conditions made for a good weekend of golf at Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club in Tampa. In the 13-15 boys’ division, two under-par scores sat at the top after round one. Tyler Wilkes, of Tampa took the early lead with a three under-par, 69. Following close behind with a one under-par 71, was Alexander Vogelsong, of Palm City. Joseph Pagdin and Fletcher Wunderlich tied for third after day one with an even par 72.

The final pairing in round two on Sunday included the boys’ top three finishers! Tyler, who was named Junior Amateur Match Play Champion in 2015, followed up his 69 with a round two 73 (tournament total 142) causing him to lose his two stroke lead. Vogelsong was the only player in the field to shoot two under-par rounds and advanced ahead of Wilkes by one stroke with a final round two under-par 70, tournament total 141. Wunderlich carded a one under-par 71 to finish in third place with a one under-par tournament total of 143. Two other players posted impressive under-par rounds on Sunday, Nicklaus Staub, 69 and Justin Rickerson, 71.  

In the girls’ division, Taylor Zeng, of Orlando opened with a one over-par 73 to lead by one stroke. Three girls tied for second place with day one rounds of 74, including Lauren Heinlein, Megan Ikeda, and Meiyi Yan. The final round saw Zeng struggle to a 77, tournament total 150, and a tied for third place finish with Taylor Dedmen (77-73--150). Meiyi Yan held on to capture second place alone with a steady round two score of 75, 149 tournament total. Ariel (SiQin) Yu, of Bradenton climbed up to first place recording her second FJT win of 2016! Ariel came back from a first round 75 with a final round 73, tournament total 148, and one stroke victory! Rachel Silverman had the tournament low round in the girls’ division on Sunday with a two under-par, 70!

The Florida Junior Tour 13-15 division will travel to Ocala National Golf Club, in Ocala the weekend of April 2-3! We look forward to many more impressive scores, great weather, and beautiful course conditions.

Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club was designed in 1921 and recently became the only 18 hole golf course to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This interesting design is located in the Temple Terrace section of Tampa and is a fun course and an easy walk. Temple Terrace G&CC is a great design for junior golfers!

Format

• 36 holes of individual stroke play
• 84 total players (typically 66 boys and 18 girls)
• 13-15 age division (age calculated by the last day of the tournament)

Divisions and Approximate Yardages

• Boys 13-15 Age Division - 6,600 yards (gross only)
• Girls 13-15 Age Division - 5,700 yards (gross only)

How Entries are Accepted

• Players with an unused FJT exemption will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis (if submitted before the entry deadline).
• Players without an FJT exemption - all other entries are held until the entry closing date.  Shortly after the closing date, a computer-generated random draw is performed to determine which entries are accepted, and the order of the alternates. All players are notified of their status after the random draw is conducted,
• An alternates list will be posted to the FJT website under "Tee Times & Player Information".
• Entries submitted after the entry deadline will be added to the bottom of the alternates list or used to fill any openings in the field.

How to Enter

Entries must be submitted through the FSGA website. To enter, each player must have an account on this website (free to setup), and a current FJT Junior Membership ($40). Click "Enter" above in the Tournament Links box.

Entry Fee

The entry fee of $95 (for GHIN handicap members) or $115 (non-GHIN handicap members) includes tournament rounds, range balls prior to tournament rounds, crystal trophies for the top three finishers, and a tee gift. 

To receive the GHIN handicap price, the player, or one of the player's parents must have an active GHIN handicap at a club in Florida. The seven digit GHIN number must be included and active when the entry is submitted. Click on the Handicaps tab above in the main menu for more information.

Late Fee:  A late fee of $10 will be applied to entries received after the entry deadline. The entry fee and late fee will only be charged if the player gets accepted into the tournament field.
