FJT at Timacuan G&CC (16-18)

Timacuan Golf & Country Club, Lake Mary, FL

May 14-15, 2016

Timacuan Golf and Country Club in Lake Mary hosted the Florida Junior Tour 16-18 division for two perfect days of golf. With great weather and a slight breeze, there were two red numbers posted in round one. In the girls’ division Macy Somoskey, of Sanford, carded an impressive three under-par, 69 to take the early lead. She started her round hot, posting two birdies in her first three holes and finished the round with four more birdies (34-35—69). Macy would be chasing her second FJT win after capturing first at Don Veller Seminole Golf Course and Club. Close behind Somoskey, solo in second place, was Annie Kim, of Winter Garden. Kim fired a first round one over-par 73 and is no stranger to Timacuan as she won the 13-15 FJT here last April. Jennifer Zhou stood alone in third place with a 74.

Round one in the boys’ division saw Calvin Sierota, of Melbourne, take off with the lead by five strokes. Sierota is fresh off a win at the FJT at Duran last month and had a scorecard with nothing but 3’s and 4’s, just shy of a bogey free round. With nines of 35 and 32, Calvin posted a first round five under-par 67. Michael Saccente, of Edgewater, stood alone in second with an even par, 72. Michael would be fighting for first place in his first FJT of 2016. Three players tied for third carding a 73; Linus Samuelsson, Jeffrey Cunningham, and Sully Zagerman.

Sunday’s final round saw Annie Kim overcome a four-stroke deficit to finish in first place! Kim posted a 36-36—72, 145 tournament total, to advance over Macy by three strokes and earn her second FJT victory at Timacuan. Macy struggled to a 79 second round and fell to second place with a 148 tournament total. Jennifer Zhou, of Longwood, played steady golf with a round two 75 and third place finish (149 tournament total).

Calvin Sierota dominated the boys’ division posting a second under-par round on the final day. After a second round one under-par, 71, Calvin earned a seven-stroke victory with a 138 tournament total (-6). Calvin birdied three of the four par fives and posted four birdies on the day. Michael Saccente played consistent golf with a round two 73 to finish in second place with a 145 tournament total. Linus Samuelsson and Evan Sun tied for third at a 136 tournament total. This is Calvin’s second FJT win in 2016!

The FJT returns to Timacuan Golf & Country Club in May 2016, this time for the 16-18 year old division. Timacuan is a par 72 Ron Garl design that can stretch over 7,000 yards. A strategic gem, the golfer must use extreme precision with his/her tee shots and irons if he/she is looking for success. Being prepared mentally is as important as being prepared physically when taking on this Central Florida track. Located in Lake Mary, which is just northeast of Orlando on I-4, Timacuan makes for an easy commute for nearly all golfers in Florida.
