C.C. at Silver Springs Shores Outlasts Competition

The Country Club at Silver Springs Shores dominated the 2017 Men’s Interclub Team Championship at Ocala National Golf Club. After six weeks of matches followed by two rounds of playoffs, The Country Club at Silver Spring Shores outlasted eight other Regional Champions to be crowned the Men’s Interclub State Champions in their hometown.

The State Championship saw all but one new team in the field this year competing for the title of Interclub Champions. During Tuesday’s round, Ocala National greeted players with sunny skies, the winning team from the west region, and Ocala natives Silver Spring Shores, earned a two stroke lead after a round one 211 team total. Cypress Lakes Country Club of Fort Myers trailed in second place by four strokes (207 total) followed by Julington Creek and Tampa Palms (203 totals) tied for third. The player with the highest stableford points came from the first place team. Dale Hogsten from Silver Spring Shores boosted his team with 41 points! Robert Dyer of Heron Creek and Tom Bean of Cypress Lakes earned the second highest individual points with 39!

Silver Spring Shores never let go of their lead and posted 203 points in the final round to win by eight points over the defending champions Julington Creek! Congratulations to the members of the Championship team from the West Region: Steve Bowen, Perry Crenshaw, Buddy Fudge, Dale Hogsten, Roger Hogsten, Joe Reyes, Philip Yancey, and Bill Zylstra. Joe Wallace posted the tournament high on Thursday with 40 points. Eric Wood of Julington Creek posted the individual tournament high with 77 points.  

The 2017 Men's Interclub season began with 124 teams competing from Pensacola all the way to Vero Beach. Nine Regional Championship teams listed below earned their ticket to compete at the State Championship held at Ocala National Golf Club.

In the State Championship, the six lowest individual net scores (highest net Stableford points) per team count. The team with the highest number of points is crowned the Interclub State Champion. Net Stableford points are as follows: Double Eagle 5-points, Eagle 4-points, Birdie 3-points, Par 2-points, Bogey 1-point, Double Bogey or higher 0-points.

Tournament Results

The Interclub season includes a six week regular season, two rounds of playoffs, and a State Championship held on March 28-29 at Ocala National Golf Club. The Interclub Matches are a state-wide competition between clubs.  Last year, 124 clubs throughout the state competed!

Ocala National Golf Club is a Championship level facility, redesigned by Rees Jones.  The course routing bends through century-old oak trees.  Beginning at the first tee looking down to an approachable green, the golf course guides players through dramatic slopes, challenging bunkers and fantastic views.  For 2016 Championship results, click here.

Championship Format

  • 36 holes of net stableford stroke play - highest team stableford point total wins
    • Net stableford points are allotted as follows: double eagle - 5 points, eagle - 4 points, birdie - 3 points, par - 2 points, bogey - 1 point, double bogey or higher - 0 points
  • Teams that won their Region advance to the Championship
  • 8 players per team play in each Championship round
  • All players play to their lowest index (LI) for the previous 12 months

Eligibility

  • Club must be an FSGA-GHIN member
  • A valid Florida-GHIN handicap index not exceeding 18.4
  • Entrants are not required to be a member of the FSGA

Entry Fee

$50 per team for the duration of the season.  For regular season and playoff matches, there will be no green fees. However, a club may charge a "typical" cart fee which may not exceed $30 in any case.  There is no additional fee for the Championship.  

Handicaps

  • Must have a Florida GHIN Handicap no higher than 18.4.
  • All players will play to their lowest index (LI) for the previous 12 months

  • Awards ceremony immediately following the completion of play

Practice Round and Practice Facility Information

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship on a space available basis. Practice rounds may be played after 12:00 PM Friday through Sunday. The price for a practice round is $45.00 plus tax. Please call (352) 629-7980 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range. Hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds.  Players are responsible for practice round fees.

Defending Champions

The Champions Club at Julington Creek came back from a 14 point deficit and captured the 2016 Men's Interclub Team Championship at Walt Disney World Golf Resort in Lake Buena Vista.  After six weeks of matches, followed by two rounds of playoffs, The Champions Club at Julington Creek outlasted eight other Regional Champions to be crowned the 2016 Men's Interclub State Champions.
