Club Team Champions

Lago Mar Country Club came from seven Stableford points behind to claim the Regular Division title in the Club Team Championship at the Verandah Club in Fort Myers, May 1-2. Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club built on their first round lead to capture the Senior Divison title for the second consecutive year.

Grabbing 112 Stableford points in the first round, Lago Mar Country Club sat seven points behind first round leader, Hunters Green Country Club.  The team of Rick Woulfe, Bob Ethridge, Craig Stevens, and Steve Sponder, posted a total of 109 points in the final round for a tournament total of 221 to overtake first place and win by one Stableford point.  This is Lago Mar’s first Club Team title since winning the championship in 2005. First round leader Hunters Green Country Club followed their 119 points with 101 points to grab second place honors with a 220 total.  Redland Golf & Country Club (A), and Heathrow Country Club, finished tied for third place with 219 stableford points.

In the Senior Division, for the second consecutive year, Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club captured the championship by six stableford points. The team consisting of Skip Lujack, Mark Puskarich, Pete Andrews, and Dan Morgan posted 115 points in the first round and followed that with 108 points in the final round to win the championship.  Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club finished alone in second place with a total of 217 stableford points. The Country Club of Orlando finished in third place with 212 points for third place.

A tradition since 1941, the Club Team is open to traditional golf clubs that own their own course and are members of the FSGA.

he four team members must each be members of the club. Each team member plays 36 holes of individual stroke play using stableford scoring.  Total of best 3 point totals of 4 count as the team score each day, and the highest team point total for 36 holes is crowned the champion.

Verandah's Old Orange Course, designed by Bob Cupp, embellishes the natural landscape and recaptures the 'Golden Era' of golf dating back to the 1920s. Verandah's new Whispering Oak Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II, features compact greens.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to traditional golf clubs (that own their own course) which are members of the FSGA. The four team members must each be members of the club (traditional dues-paying golf membership). Any questions regarding eligibility should be directed to the FSGA Executive Director.

DIVISIONS

Regular and Senior Division. All team members must be age 55 or older as of May 1, 2010 to compete in senior division.

ENTRY FEE

$150 per person: GHIN Club ($600 per team) / $175 per person: Non GHIN Club ($700 per team).

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

36 holes of stroke play stableford scoring. All players play eighteen holes each on the Old Orange and Whispering Oak Courses.  Each team total is derived from the total of the high 3 of the 4 stableford scores each round.  Each club can send as many teams as it prefers.  Prior to March 18, only two teams per club (any combination) will be entered into the field (in order of receipt).  If the field is not full as of March 18, additional teams will be added on a first come first-serve basis.

SEEDING

The Tournament Committee will seed the field based upon prior performance in this event. In the event the Championship is reduced to 18 holes (weather), the Committee reserves the right to declare a champion from the course with the highest-seeded teams.

PRACTICE BEFORE or BETWEEN ROUNDS

Rule 7-1b has been waived; this will allow competitors to play on the competition courses between competitive rounds.

PRACTICE ROUNDS

Practice rounds may be arranged on a space available basis anytime one week prior to the Championship. The cost of your practice round is $35.00 plus tax.  Please call (239) 694-4229 to arrange your practice round at Verandah Club.

CARTS

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.  All players must ride during their stipulated round.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

Rio Pinar Country Club won the Regular division title as Buckhorn Springs won the Senior division at LPGA International in Daytona Beach.

SPECTATORS & CADDIES

Spectators and caddies are always welcome at FSGA Championships. Only players are allowed to ride in carts.  If a player employs a caddie, the caddie MUST walk and the player's clubs must remain on the golf cart.

DEADLINE

Clubs may, through their golf professional, reserve a spot (with a fully-paid entry) without team members' names prior to the closing date, but must have players verified upon close of entries.

CONDITIONS; SCHEDULES

The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.
