Walt Disney World (16-18)

Walt Disney World Golf (Magnolia Course) - Lake Buena Vista

December 6-7, 2014

Wrigley & Zeng Crowned Champions at Disney

The Florida Junior Tour, 16-18 age division, experienced fantastic course conditions at the Magnolia Course at Walt Disney World Resort this weekend, December 6-7. Great weather conditions in Lake Buena Vista allowed for low scores and a tight leaderboard.

In the Boys 16-18 age division, William Wrigley fired a final round 70 to capture his first FJT win on Sunday, December 7th. After round one, Wrigley, of Winter Garden, finished tied for fourth with a score of 73, two strokes behind Jerry Zhu in first place. Zhu opened with a first round one under-par, 71, and lead by one stroke over Colin Kresl and Michael Spinger in second place.

After round two, Zhu fell from first place with a score of 73, and finished the tournament in second place.  Jeremy Perna made a drastic come back on Sunday by shooting the lowest round of the tournament, six under-par 66. Perna, of Sarasota, moved from 24th place to finish tied for third with Michael Mattiace. Wrigley prevailed to claim first with the only under-par tournament total of 143.

In the Girl’s 16-18 age division, Kelsey Zeng claimed first place after a playoff with Morgan Baxendale. After round one, Claire Fitzgerald and Athena Yang tied for first place with a score of 73. Close behind Yang and Fitzgerald, sat Baxendale, Zeng, and Terese Romeo with a first round score of 74.

Zeng and Baxendale remained tied after round two with scores of 72. Zeng, of Orlando, and Baxendale, of Windermere, moved to first place after Yang and Fitzgerald shot rounds of 77 and finished Sunday tied for third. To determine the first place winner, Baxendale and Zeng would compete in a sudden death playoff. Zeng scored a par on the first playoff hole and was crowned champion.

The 2014 FJT season comes to an end next weekend, December 13-14, with the Tour Championship. The Championship is being held at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach.
