Junior Team Championship

Sandridge Golf Club - Vero Beach

August 4-5, 2018

Junior Team Champions Crowned

After two beautiful summer days at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach, four teams came away with victories in their respective divisions at the 2018 Junior Team Championship.  The 13-15 year old boys and girls teed it up on the Lakes course while the 16-18 divisions played on the Dunes course.  Each team consisted of three players and the top two 18-hole scores from each team would be combined to form a team total.  After two rounds, teams from the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation, Winter Park Golf Academy, Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation and the Junior Golf Association of Broward County prevailed.

The Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation captured the title in the Girls 13-15 division after steady play from Amelie Alcantara, Jennifer Lilly and Amelia Novoa.  The team would take scores of 74,74, 75 and 76 for an 11 over total.  The Gold Coast JGF edged out the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation by six shots.  The NFJGF were ledby Kaitlyn Schroeder, as she carded the low round of the day in any division on Saturday to go along with a 75 on Sunday for the low individual honors in the division.

The North Florida Junior Golf Association would get their shine as their 13-15 year old boy team took home first place honors. Clay Tucker and Lucas Slayden paced the team with rounds of 73-72 and 78-68 respectively, but Campbell Kennedy was right there as well with a 79 and 75 on Saturday and Sunday.  Tucker and Slayden were first and second in the division individually, while Kennedy was fourth.  As can be imagined, the team won by 15 shots with the Junior Golf Association of Broward County placing in second.

In the Girls 16-18 Division, the Junior Golf Association of Broward County prevailed with a two round total of 296 (+8).  The team was comprised of Casey Sommer, Jillian Bourdage and Makayla Chau.  Sommer and Bourdage would do the majority of the damage as they posted impressive rounds of 73 and 76 on Saturday and 72 and 75 on Sunday.  Not willing to let the teammates share low individual, Lauren Clark from the Jack Nicklaus Academy of Orlando fired 71-75 to take the honors by two strokes.

Finally, the Boys 16-18 division gave us our last chance for a program to take multiple divisions, however the Winter Park Golf Academy bested the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation by 11 strokes.  The team combined for quite a performance, as each team member shot no higher than 78 either day.  Michael Maya and Andrew Clark carded 72 and 74 respectively on Saturday.  Sunday saw Clark and Drew Lanier shoot 72 and 75 respectively.  Clark's 146 total was good enough for low individual in the division as well.
