Vineyards Country Club, South Course, Naples, FL

May 17-18, 2025

NAPLES, Fla. - The Women's Shoot-Out proved to be a duel coming down the home stretch of the final round at The Vineyards Country Club. It was the team of Kim Benedict and Madyson Gold who prevailed over tough competition to raise the Shoot-Out trophy. The Shoot-Out consistes of a scramble format during the first round on Saturday, and a Four-Ball format for the final round on Sunday.

Championship Division

Two teams tied at the top of the leaderboard after a fiery round one of scramble format. The team of Amy Kennedy/Suzanne Ricard tied the team of Kim Benedict/Madyson Gold at 8-under par, 64 for first. Close behind in a tie for third were the teams of Lin Culver/Tama Caldabaugh and Mary Jane Hiestand/Susan Temple. It would be a duel for the title of shoot-out champion in round two.

Sunday's final round of Four-Ball competition started with a bang with a hole-in-one on the fourth hole from Mary Jane Hiestand. This was the second hole-in-one of the tournament with Hazel Roy making her first ever hole-in-one during the first round on the same hole.

Hiestand's hole-in-one and Temple's birdie on the second hole bumped the defending 2024 champions up the leaderboard. Kennedy and Ricard held firm in the race for the solo lead with an even par final round to finish in second place at 8-under par. Despite a 2-under round two from Hiestand and Temple, the team of Benedict and Gold did not lose sight of the lead. The 2021 and 2025 Women's Mid-Amateur champions respectively, Benedict and Gold raised the Shoot-Out trophy with a two stroke victory.

Hiestand and Temple rounded out the top three at 7-under par, three strokes back. The team of Kim Keyer-Scott/Joy Passalacqua played steady golf lurking close behind in the final round to finish in fourth place.

Middle Division

An impressive scramble round of 6-under par from Betsy Knights and Hazel Roy gave the team a two stroke lead after round one. In wire-to-wire fashion the duo secured a first place victory after a second round 74 and 6-under par finish. Colleen Callahan and Grace Allmaier advanced up the leaderboard in round two to claim second place at 1-under par.

In the Middle First Flight, Jennifer Rushmore and Liz Boudreaux were the definition of consistency with back-to-back rounds of 70 leading them to a first place finish. The team of Ella and Piya Thompson finished four strokes behind in second place at even par.

The team of Danielle Fields and Jodi Vanhove took home the win in the Middle Second Flight after rounds of 70-74 for an even par finish.

Suggested Handicap Guidelines

The following should be considered when selecting divisions (recommended based on combined team handicaps).

  • Championship Division - 20.0 & Under
  • Middle Division - 20.0 & Over
    • Committee Discretion: The Championship Committee reserves the right to move any team out of the Middle Division if their team handicap (or an individual partner's handicap) is significantly lower than the majority of the competitors in that division, and their scoring history does not reflect the need to play from the Middle Division yardage.

Flighting

  • The Championship Division will be gross only and will not be flighted

  • The Middle Division will be pre-flighted based on individual handicaps

Generally, divisions of more than 12 teams will be pre-flighted, however the Committee reserves the right to flight based on the number of teams and/or the range of combined individual handicaps or scores.

Breaking Ties

  • Championship Division – The overall Champions will be the individuals from the Championship Division with the lowest total score. In the event of a tie for first place, there will be a hole-by-hole sudden death playoff on a hole designated by the Committee to determine the Champions.
  • Middle Division – All ties in each flight of the Middle Division will be broken by the FSGA tie breaking method (Modified USGA). The final day 18 hole score will be used. If there is still a tie, the last 9 holes of the last day (10-18). If there is still a tie, the last 6 holes are used (13-18), then if needed the last 3 holes (16-18), then the final hole (18). In the case that players are still tied after the 18th hole, the winner will be determined by lot (coin flip).
  • Middle Divisions will pay gross first, then net.

Doubles Golf is a "better shot" format which offers a friendly approach to golf in both recreational and competitive play.

As part of your entry, you and your partner are competing for a spot in the 2025 Florida State Doubles Championship being held at ChampionsGate Golf Resort on Sunday, October 5th. Doubles State Champion teams will advance to the 2025 U.S. Doubles Championships hosted by Jack Nicklaus at The Bear's Club in Jupiter this November.
