Dunedin Golf Club Captures 2019 Interclub Crown


HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Men’s Interclub Team Championship returned to Mission Inn Resort, in Howey-in-the-Hills, for the second consecutive year to crown the 2019 champion. Ten teams made it through sectional and regional qualifying to be named Regional Champions, and earn a spot in the field of the Interclub Team Championship. 

The players experienced a delayed start in round one due to rain moving through the area. With a clear afternoon forecast, La Cita Golf & Country Club took the early lead at 213 points. Don Frederick led the team with 42 points while Don Danielson followed close behind with 38 points. Jason Snodgrass, John Trimble, Toby McCormick, Scott Ahmie, Dave Clarke, and Tim Fields contributed to the strong team of La Cita Golf & Country Club. Three points behind in second place was the team of Dunedin Golf Club. La Cita Golf & Country Club will enter round two vying to seize victory after finishing in seventh place the previous year. 

Dunedin Golf Club erased their three stroke deficit to capture first place at 411 stableford points! Ken Palladino led the team in round two with 40 points but was followed by John Mahony (38 points), Dean Karis (33 points), Ernie Davis (32 points), Gary Huffaker (29 points), Jim White (29 points), George Fair (27 points), and Dave Williams (25 points). Dunedin GC earned 201 points in round two and 210 points in round one to claim a 14 point victory! LaCita CC fell to second place after a total of 184 points in round two. Quail Creek Country Club tied LaCita CC in second place at a final 397 points. Orange Tree GC finished in fourth place at 388 points. 
  
The 2019 Men’s Interclub season began with 130 teams competing from all across the State. Ten Regional Championship teams listed below earned their spot at the State Championship held at Mission Inn Resort. 

Tampa Bay Region: Dunedin Golf Club, Dunedin 
Suncoast Region: Pasadena Yacht & Country Club, Gulfport  
Suncoast Region 2: River Strand Golf & Country Club, Bradenton 
West Region: Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club, Tampa 
Naples Region: Quail Creek Country Club, Naples
Naples Region 2: The Golf Club at Olde Cypress, Naples 
Central Region: Orange Tree Golf Club, Orlando
Northeast Region: Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club, Ormond Beach
Panhandle Region: Regatta Bay Golf & Country Club, Destin  
Treasure Coast Region: La Cita Golf & Country Club, Titusville 

In the State Championship, the six lowest individual net scores (highest net stableford points) per team count. The team with the highest number of points is crowned the Interclub State Champion. Net stableford points are as follows: Double Eagle: 5-points, Eagle: 4-points, Birdie: 3-points, Par: 2-points, Bogey: 1-point, Double Bogey or Higher: 0-points.

The Interclub season includes a six week regular season, two rounds of playoffs, and a State Championship held on April 5-6. The Interclub Matches are a state-wide competition between clubs.  Last year, 128 clubs throughout the state competed for the chance to be named Champion!

Championship Format

  • 36 holes of net stableford stroke play - highest team stableford point total wins
    • Net stableford points are allotted as follows: double eagle - 5 points, eagle - 4 points, birdie - 3 points, par - 2 points, bogey - 1 point, double bogey or higher - 0 points
  • Teams that win their Region advance to the Championship
  • 8 players per team play in each Championship round
  • All players play to their lowest index (LI) for the previous 12 months

Eligibility

  • Club must be an FSGA-GHIN member
  • A valid Florida-GHIN handicap index not exceeding 18.4
  • Entrants are not required to be a member of the FSGA

Entry Fee

$50 per team for the duration of the season.  For regular season and playoff matches, there will be no green fees. However, a club may charge a "typical" cart fee which may not exceed $30 in any case.  There is no additional fee for the Championship.  

Handicaps

  • Must have a Florida GHIN Handicap no higher than 18.4.
  • All players will play to their lowest index (LI) for the previous 12 months

  • 8:00 AM - Round One shotgun start Las Colinas Course
Saturday, April 6th
  • 8:00 AM - Final Round shotgun start El Campeón Course
  • Awards ceremony immediately following the completion of play

Practice Round and Practice Facility Information

Practice rounds available one week prior to the event on a space available basis at the rate of $40 plus tax. Mission Inn accepts cash, Visa and MasterCard. Please call 352-324-3932 to arrange your practice round.

Also, the Championship Committee is permitting practice on any competition course or part of any course on any day of or between rounds of the Championship. As a result, competitors are allowed to play a practice round on the course remaining to be played after the first round.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds.  Players are responsible for practice round fees.

Defending Champions

Mission Inn Resort & Club was our first Champion ever to win at their home club.

  • Spectators - Only players are allowed to ride in carts.  Click here.
  • Caddies - Caddies are allowed in all FSGA Championships except Junior events. However, a player must not use a parent, step-parent or guardian as a caddie. The caddie MUST walk and the player's clubs must remain on the golf cart.

Host Hotel and Accommodations

Mission Inn is offering Deluxe accommodations for single or double occupancy at the rate of $160 per night plus $16 resort fee plus 11% state and local tax. Please call 1-800-874-9053 to reserve a room. A deposit of $195.36 will be required.
