Amateur Championship

Bay Hill Club & Lodge - Orlando

June 19-22, 2003

Started in 1914, the Florida State Amateur Championship is the oldest continuous sporting event in the state of Florida. Played this year at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge and at Metrowest Country Club, the Amateur will again decide the top amateur in the state of Florida. Past champions of the Amateur include Bob Murphy, Jerry Pate, Buddy Alexander and PGA Tour players David Peoples, Chris Couch and Barry Cheesman. Bay Hill Club has been the site of PGA Tour events since 1979.

Originally designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee in 1961, the course was redesigned by Mr. Palmer in 1980. Metrowest Country Club is a masterpiece of traditional golf course architecture by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Unlike most in central Florida the course features 100-foot elevations that gracefully rolls among water hazards and expansive bunkers to form a fair, yet demanding test of golf.
