Sally Dee

Sally, a three-time Academic All-American, attended the University of South Florida where she played for the nationally ranked women’s golf team and graduated Cum Laude in 1994 and then set off for a career on the LPGA tour. On the LPGA Tour, Sally had five top 10 finishes before her career was cut short by an elbow injury.

While playing on tour, Sally always had a passion for the “business side” of golf. She acted as her own agent and created a successful marketing and branding strategy that helped secure endorsements with Callaway, Nike, Adidas, Titleist, and Lacoste, over the course of her career. In 2004, she was crowned World Long Drive Champion at the ReMax Long Drive Championship. She also was a contestant on the Golf Channel reality show, Big Break X.

After golf, she worked for two Fortune 500 companies, and then went back to school and in 2011, graduated with an MBA from USF. Sally founded Playbook Public Relations, LLC in 2012. Clinic Instructors

Following the opening speeches, a golf clinic will be conducted by LPGA and PGA Professionals, Cheryl Anderson and Dawn Mercer.

Cheryl Anderson

Cheryl Anderson brings a unique combination of teaching and playing skills to the Mike Bender Golf Academy in Lake Mary, FL. She is currently one of Golf Digest’s America’s Top 50 Teachers. GOLF Magazine has recognized her as one of America’s Top 100 Teachers since 2013. She is one of the LPGA’s Top 50 Teachers and was recognized in 2006 as the LPGA National Teacher of the Year. A native of Connecticut, Cheryl taught in the Metropolitan New York area from 1992-2007. She was recognized by the Metropolitan PGA Section in 2007 as the Teacher of the Year and was one of the first instructors in the world to be certified as a golf coach by the Certified Golf Coaches Association.

Cheryl has taught several top 100 juniors in the country including a number one ranked junior girl whom she had taught for nearly a decade. She also coached the Lake Mary Prep Girls Golf team to two state championship victories in Florida including a national record of 14 under par performance in an 18-hole event. Cheryl has been with the Mike Bender Golf Academy for more than 10 years. She enjoys working with every level of golfer from beginners to the professionals.

Dawn Mercer

Dawn Mercer is a Class A PGA member and was an LPGA teaching and coaching member. She has been employed as the PGA instructor at Innisbrook for more than 20 years and has been instructing for over 17 years. Dawn has won awards such as the 2007 and 2008 PGA President’s Council on Growing the Game.

As the PGA director of instruction at the Golf Academy at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla., Mercer is always looking for ways to encourage participation from golf’s next generation and grow the game among niche groups. “At the end of the day, golf should not have gender,” Mercer said. “There should not be a lady’s club and a man’s club because there are short guys that need the softer flex, shorter club… and there are tall women that need a longer club.”

As added incentive for more female juniors to pick up the sport, Mercer pointed out that girls have a better chance of getting a golf scholarship than boys. “Girls scoring in the 80s to 110 range at 5,800 yards have a good shot while boys need scores of 72 to 76 from 7,000 to 7,200 yards to get on the teams of the same schools.”
