Boca Royale G&CC (13-15)

Boca Royale Golf & Country Club, Englewood, FL

November 14-15, 2015

Boca Royale Golf and Country Club hosted the Florida Junior Tour 13-15 age division where Joseph Pagdin and Alexa Pano were crowned victorious. Both Pagdin and Pano posted consistent rounds to win in Englewood, November 14-15.

Joseph Pagdin of Orlando got off to a strong start after firing the only under-par score on Saturday. Pagdin finished round one at the top with a one under-par 71, two strokes ahead of Sampson Zheng, Joshua Perna, and Harrison Ornstein tied for second place. Arden Brake III, Nicholas Gabreicik, and Brett Roberts posted a round one 73 to tie for fifth place. There was a tight race at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round on Sunday.

The boys’ division entailed an exciting finish as Tyler Wilkes, of Tampa rushed up the leaderboard from tied for eighth place to second place with an impressive second round of three under-par, 69 (74-69—143). Wind gusts of up to 25 miles per hour made conditions much tougher on Sunday, but the players battled through with impressive rounds! Despite Wilkes’ exceptional round, Pagdin finished strong with a second round of one under-par (71- 71—142) to earn his first FJT win. The finish brought back memories from the 2015 Junior Amateur Match Play Championship where Wilkes defeated Pagdin in the final match. This time around Pagdin earned the win. Orlando resident, Sampson Zheng finished in third place after consistent rounds of 72-73—145. The third under-par final round came from Miami native, Jake Beber-Frankel who finished in fourth place (75-71—146).

In the girls’ division, Alexa Pano seized first place after an impressive second round in the difficult conditions. Round one finished with Faith Silverman of Belle Isle in the lead by one stroke over Pano. Silverman posted a two over-par 74 followed by Pano with a three over-par 75. Taylor Dedmen entered Sunday’s round in third place with a round one 76. Alexa, of Lake Worth did not falter in round two and posted a second consecutive 75 for a tournament total 150 and first FJT win! Largo resident, Taylor Dedmen advanced up the leaderboard to second place in her first FJT event with a 153 tournament total. Silverman struggled in the windy conditions and finished in third place with a 156 tournament total.

Highlights from the weekend included both Pagdin and Pano earning their first FJT victory and Wilkes was awarded a course record plaque! The FJT event was the first tournament played from the back tees at Boca Royale Golf and Country Club and Wilkes’ second round score of 69 set the course record!
