Lancaster Team Wins Mixed Team

Defending Champions Mary Kozak-Lancaster and Ryal Lancaster won their second Mixed Team Championship after shooting a 4-under par 140. Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills hosted the Championship on November 1-2.

On the first day of four-ball stroke play, the Lancaster team, of Orlando, shot a 71 to lead the fifty teams. The final day consisted of 18 holes of modified alternate shot and the Lancaster’s recorded a 69 to finish the tournament with a score of 140. Ashley Shinn and David Dilibero, of Gainesville, shot a 73-69—142 to finish two strokes back from the leaders. In the second flight, Chris and Julie Taylor, of Winter Park, won the flight after shooting a 74-75—149. The third flight featured Donna and Richard Blomstrom, of Melbourne, winning after they shot a 77-76—153. In the fourth flight, Susan Fischer and Ron Gay, of Port Charlotte, shot a 78-84—162 to place first in the flight and Dana and Stephen Turker, of Dunedin, shot a 83-86—169 to win the fifth flight. The teams were flighted based on the combined team handicap index.

Last year, also at the Mission Inn Resort, Mary Kozak Lancaster and Ryal Lancaster won the title shooting three more than this year, 143.

The El Campeon Course at Mission Inn will be the site for the Mixed Team championship after hosting the 2001 event. The course has many elevation changes, as well as small greens and narrow fairways. With water hazards coming into play on almost every hole, the course should provide a strong challenge.

ELIGIBILITY

At least one entrant of each team must be a member of the FSGA or FWSGA.

ENTRY FEE

$375 per team. Includes two competitive rounds, lunch and prizes. $45 practice round cart fee per player.

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

Saturday - 18 holes four-ball stroke play (gross and net).

Sunday - 18 holes alternate shot (gross only).

FLIGHTS

Couples will be flighted based on the combine updated team handicap index.

DIVISIONS

There will be both low gross and low net divisions on day one only.

COURSE SET-UP

The El Campeon course will be set up at approximately 6,100 yards for men and 5,200 yards for women.

CARTS

Players are responsible for practice round cart fees.

HANDICAP

Individual players will play to 100% of their course handicap on Saturday only. A handicap spread restriction of 12 strokes is imposed on teams. Although players may not "play down" to meet the maximum current index of 34.0, they must "play down" to meet the maximum 12-stroke handicap spread between team members.
