Four Teams Conquer Sandridge Golf Club

 

VERO BEACH, Fla.  – The Junior Team Championship has ended and JGA of Broward County “A” team took home the Boys (16-18) Division and Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation won the Girls (16-18) Division. In addition, the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation won the Boys (13-15) Division, while the Derrick Payne School of Golf won the Girls (13-15) Division.

Sandridge Golf Club played host to this championship and it was completed across two courses, the Lakes and the Dunes course. It consisted of 36 holes of stroke play and the low two gross scores per round of the three gross scores for each team counted per round as the team score.

Boys (16-18)

On Saturday, players had to deal with a lengthy two and a half hour lightning delay. The delay was no match for the players as they remained calm, cool, and collected and posted some impressive scores. Following Saturday’s round The JGA of Broward County’s “A” team jumped out to the lead after the first round with a total team score of two-under par. The Crowe brothers, Oscar and Henry, fired impressive scores of two-under par 70 and even par 72. Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour sat in second place only one stroke behind JGA of Broward County with a total team score of one-under par. Baylor Touchstone and Wilmer Mitchell led the way as Baylor finished with a score of one-under par 71 and Wilmer posted a score of even par 72.

Unlike the first round, the second round was a picture perfect day in Vero Beach. Sunny skies and warm temperatures proved to be ideal scoring conditions as the JGA of Broward County’s “A” team held on to win wire-to-wire. Oscar Crowe led the way with an outstanding score of four-under par 68. Henry Crowe fired a 73 while Sebastian Ayala fired an 80. Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour took home second place while North Florida Junior Golf Foundation secured a third place finish.

Girls (16-18)

After the first round, there was a tie for first place Girls (16-18) division. Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour’s “A” and “B” team both finished with a total team score of two-over par. Kamdyn Kelley and Julie Waldo led the way for the “A” team as Kamdyn finished with a score of even par while Julie finished with a solid score of two-over par. Abby Vernier and Elizabeth Palmer led the way for the “B” team as Abby fired an impressive three-under par 69 for the low round of the first round. Elizabeth followed suit with a solid round of five-over par. Derrick Payne School of Golf sits only four-back setting up an interesting final round.

The second round of the Girls (16-18) division proved to be the most exciting finish of the day. The Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation roared back from four down to force a playoff against the Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour’s “B” team. In the end, the Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation took home the victory. Gold Coast was able to win a one hole playoff. Stellar play from teammates Abigail Lee, Ashley Balcom, and Audrey Bacic proved to be the difference. Two Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour teams captured second and third place. The “B” team took home second while the “A” team captured third

Boys (13-15)

In the Boys (13-15) division, the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation jumped out to a three-stroke lead as they finished with a total team score of two-under par 70. Brady Dougan and Jay Huntley led the way as Brady fired an impressive score of two-under with an eagle on hole 18 to cap it off. Jay also put together a solid round as his consistent play led to a score of even par 72. Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour is close behind as Aiden Yang posted a score of even par while J. Clark Brandt finished at one-over par.

The North Florida Junior Golf Foundation were able to hold on to win in wire-to-fashion for their second victory in as many years in the Boys (13-15) division. Jay Huntley fired a team low round of the day 70. Jaden Nacional and Brady Dougan played some solid golf posting a 74 and 75 respectively. Crane Lakes took home second place while Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour took third.

Girls (13-15)

Derrick Payne School of Golf jumped out to the lead after the first round. Fernanda Carrion and Stella Ronja Lind played consistent golf as they finished with a total team score of four-over par. Fernanda fired a solid round of one-over par while Stella was right behind with a nice round of three-over par. Derrick Payne School of Golf heads into the second round with a four-stroke lead over Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation and North Florida Junior Golf Foundation. This packed leaderboard sets up an exciting final round

The Derrick Payne School of Golf captured the Girls (13-15) division for the second time in two years. Stella Ronja Lind fired a team low 76. Danielle Hernandez posted a a 77 while Fernanda Carrion added an 80. North Florida Junior Golf Foundation finished in second while Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation captured third.

Tournament Summary

Format:   36 holes of stroke play; low 2 scores count for the team

Eligibility Male & Female Florida resident - junior golfer

Entry Fee:  $225 per team ($75 per person)

Championship Format 

  • 36 holes of stroke play
  • Total of the low two gross scores per round of the three gross scores for each team will count per round as team score
  • Low gross total team score is Champion
  • Two courses will be utilized - players will play the same course both days
  • Three players per team, all three members must fall into one division (playing up allowed if approved by FSGA)

    • Girls (13-15)

Eligibility & Entry Priority

  • Male & Female junior golfers - See the FSGA's Competitive Fairness Gender Policy
  • Open to junior programs that provide organized tournaments, instruction, or clinics that are open to all junior golfers in your community
  • National or statewide tours are not allowed to participate
  • Junior programs may select the individuals they send to the Team Championship by any criteria they select; however, all three players must be directly involved with the local program listed on the entry form
  • Only one team ("A" team) from each program will be accepted per division prior to the close of entries
  • Additional teams ("B", and "C") will be accepted on a space available basis after the entry deadline based on order of receipt of entry. All "B" teams entered before the deadline will be considered for acceptance before any "C" teams  are considered.
  • Entrant must not have reached their 19th birthday by the last day of the Championship and not attending college if graduated from high school. See exception here.

Junior Programs may reserve a spot (with a fully-paid entry) without team member's names prior to the closing date.

Entry Fee

  • $225 per team
  • Coaches carts are not included in above entry fee

Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field

Saturday, August 2nd

  • 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM Registration (Coach registers for team)
  • 11:00 AM - 12:57 PM - Tee times off of #1 (Dunes Course) and #1 & #10 (Lakes Courses)

Sunday, August 3rd

  • 7:30 AM - 9:27 AM - Tee times off of #1 (Dunes Course) and #1 & #10 (Lakes Courses)
  • Awards presentation immediately following play

Entry Priority

  • Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt
  • Entries received after the competitive field is full or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list
  • Alternates will be contacted in the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available

  • Boys (16-18) - Dunes Course

Practice Rounds

  • Practice rounds are available on a space-available basis one week prior to the event and limited to after 12:00 PM the weekend prior.
  • The price for a practice round is $35 + tax.
  • Please call (772) 770-5000 to arrange your practice round. 

The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range; hitting multiple shots on the course, not filling divots, and not repairing ball marks are unacceptable may cause removal from the tournament without a refund.

Coaches

  • Each team is allowed ONE Coach. Only that coach may give advice after the completion of a hole and before the start of the next hole
  • Each Coach must register themselves as the team coach at the registration table to receive their team packet

Coaches/Spectator Carts

  • Coaches and spectators may rent carts for $30 + tax each day
  • Carts are available on a first-come, first-served basis
  • The FSGA requests these carts be used to assist in evacuation of players if play is suspended for dangerous situation (inclement weather)
