Mid-Senior Four-Ball Championship (South)

Finley and Woulfe Wire-to-Wire

Ben Finley and Rick Woulfe fought hard in the final round to win the Mid-Senior Four-Ball South Championship by one-stroke at the Members Club at Marco. Day one was a battle through inclement weather causing almost four hours worth of suspensions and some teams spent eight to nine hours at the golf course. Finley, of Plantation and Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale fired the low round of the day with a seven-under par 65. Following one stroke behind was the duo George Fitzgerald and Donald Sayet.

The players faced better weather during round two and completed the day with no delays. Two teams chased Finley and Woulfe in the final round, duo Jimmy Jones and Gordon Marshall and teammates Michael Wurtenberger and David Yarmitzky. The Championship came down to the final hole where Woulfe and Finley sealed the win. Woulfe was the first to hit his approach shot on the 18th hole sticking it to four-feet. This allowed Finley to pin seek and he landed his second shot one-foot from the hole. Both made their putts for birdie to win by one stroke after rounds of 65-69—134. Teams of Jones/Marshall and Wurtenberger/Yarmitzky finished tied for second with a 135 two-day total. Defending Champions, Stephen Anderson and R J Nakashian finished tied for fifth place with consistent 69’s, 138 total. In the First Flight the pair of Bill Barnes and James Starnes finished in first with rounds of 71-68—139, two strokes ahead of Jacques Legere and Jeff Mushock in second place. 

The Mid-Senior Four-Ball Championships are each 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners, each playing their own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole. The field is flighted after 18 holes. To be eligible, players must be 40 years of age or older and members of the FSGA.

The Mid-Senior Four-Ball is the perfect opportunity for a golfing getaway with a friend. It consists of two days of four-ball competition at the prestigious Members Club at Marco, in Naples. The Championship will be played on The Rookery course, which winds through natural wetlands littered with different bird species. Championship Format

• 48 teams; 96 players
• 36 holes of four-ball gross stroke play (no handicaps)

What is a Four-Ball? - A four-ball is a two person team where the low score of the two players on each hole is counted. It is commonly referred to as a best-ball.

Eligibility 

• Male amateurs must be age 40 or older as of September 12, 2015, and both entrants must be members of the FSGA.

Entry Fee

• $310 per team - GHIN Members or Foundation Member
• $330 per team - Non-GHIN Members

Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field

Entry Priority

Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt. Entries received after the competitive field is full or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list. Alternates will be contacted in
the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available.

Schedule of Events

Saturday, September 12th

• 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM - Round One tee times off of 1st and 10th tees

Sunday, September 13th

• 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM - Final Round tee times off of 1st and 10th tees

• Awards ceremony immediately following the completion of play

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately 6,600-6,700 yards.

Flights

After 18 holes. The number of flights will be based on the number of teams and/or the range of scores

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship.  Practice rounds may be played after 12:00 PM on the weekend.  The price for your practice round is $30.00 + tax.  Please call (239) 389-6600 to arrange your practice round.  The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds and players must ride. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

Defending Champions

The duo of Stephen Anderson and R J Nakashian defeated the team of Gary Nicklaus and Jon Veneziano in a playoff to be crowned the 2014 Mid-Senior Four-Ball South Champions. Anderson and Nakashian fired a tournament total 127 and birdied the second playoff hole to capture the trophy.
