Timacuan G & CC (13-15)

The Timacuan Club - Lake Mary

November 22-23, 2014

FJT Victories at Timacuan by Sun and Zhang

The Florida Junior Tour, 13-15 age division, battled through rain and wind on Saturday and early Sunday at Timacuan Golf and Country Club, in Lake Mary. Despite the challenging conditions, there were five under-par rounds this weekend, November 22-23.

In the Boys’ 13-15 age division, three players, Brandon Mancheno, Thomas Brasco, and Xiang Rui Bai, shot even par, 72, to lead after round one. Alberto Martinez finished round one in fourth place with a score of one-over par 73. Eight players shot 74 to start round two tied for fifth place.

In round two, all three round one leaders faltered, while Evan Sun posted an impressive score of 69. Sun, of Wesley Chapel, went out in 32 (-4) to start Sunday morning Sunday, almost an hour behind the leaders. Entering the final hole with five birdies (1, 2, 4, 7 & 12) and no bogeys, Sun fell to a bogey on number 18. With Sun’s group missing their pace of play checkpoint, his bogey turned into a double-bogey because of a one-stroke penalty. Sun finished with a tournament total even-par, 144, two strokes ahead of Calvin Sierota. Brandon Mancheno, Alberto Martinez, and Wocheng (Aden) Ye finished tied for third with a tournament total 147.

In the Girls’ 13-15 age division, Anne Yu opened round one with a score of 69 to lead Valeria Pacheco by two strokes. During round two, on Sunday, Pacheco and Yu struggled in the final group. Pacheco shot a second round score of 75 and Yu followed with a score of 77. A group ahead, Amy Zhang posted five birdies to shoot a final round score of 71. Zhang, of Lake Mary, finished with a tournament total 145 and a one-stroke victory over Pacheco and Yu in second place.

This was the final 13-15 Florida Junior Tour Event before the season-ending Tour Championship held at TPC Sawgrass on December 13-14.

The FJT returns to Timacuan Golf & Country Club for the second time in 2014, this time for the 13-15 year old division. Timacuan is a par 72 Ron Garl design that can stretch over 7,000 yards. A strategic gem, the golfer must use extreme precision with his/her tee shots and irons if he/she is looking for success. Being prepared mentally is as important as being prepared physically when taking on this Central Florida track. Located in Lake Mary, which is just northeast of Orlando on I-4, Timucuan makes for an easy commute for nearly all golfers in Florida..
