FJT at Quail Ridge CC (16-18)

Quail Ridge Country Club - South Course, Boynton Beach, FL

August 20-21, 2016

Quail Ridge FJT (16-18) Champions

Boys' Champion - Luke Gifford | Girls' Champion - Katie Yoo

RECAP - Round one saw a leaderboard highlighted with a handful of red numbers. In the Boys’ Division, Daisuke Nakano, of Port Saint Lucie, took the early lead with an opening round of two under-par, 70. Three players, Joseph Storey, Kritsarin Oukosavanna, and Seth Wright, sat one stroke behind in second place at one under-par, 71. Luke Gifford, of Boca Raton, finished with a round one even par score to round out the top five. Claire Fitzgerald, of Lake Mary, would start round two with a one stroke lead in the Girls’ division after posting a first round two under-par, 70. Hannah Leiner, of Boca Raton, and Katie Yoo, of Windermere, tied for second place with a 71, one stroke back. Miami resident, Alexa Rivas, carded an even par round to finish day one in fourth place.

Sunday’s final round was a battle through the lightning and weather delays to crown the Champions. With 11 groups remaining on the course, a two hour weather delay was called around 1:15 PM. In the Boys’ Division, Luke Gifford was making a charge for the lead from fifth place. Gifford had seven birdies on the round en route to an impressive six under-par, 66. The second delay occurred around 4:00 PM, causing Luke to wait in the clubhouse before he could lock in his win. With a tournament total of 138 (-6), Luke Gifford sealed the victory by three strokes! This marks Gifford’s second win of 2016 after winning at Don Veller Seminole GC&C in January. Seth Wright, of Ocala, finished second after a two under-par round two and 141 (-3) total. Round one leader, Daisuke Nakano and Joseph Storey tied for third place with a tournament total 142 (-2), four strokes off the lead.

Katie Yoo held off Claire Fitzgerlad to achieve her second win in two weeks! Yoo carded seven birdies in her final round and despite a double bogey on her second to last hole, shot two under-par 70 for a 141 (-3) total. Fitzgerald finished her final round at even par for a 142 (-2) total, one stroke back, to finish in second place.  Yoo is lighting up the FJT earning her second victory in a row, winning last week at Stone Creek GC. Alexa Rivas fired a steady one under-par, 71, to round out the top three with a 143 (-1) tournament total.
