Sugar Mill CC (13-15)

Sugar Mill Country Club - White/Red, New Smyrna Beach, FL

September 12-13, 2015

The juniors faced a cloudy round one and a two hour rain delay due to unplayable course conditions on Sunday at Sugar Mill Country Club. Despite the conditions the Boys 13-15 division posted impressive scores. After round one, Johnny Bai, of Lake Mary, shot two-under par, 70, the tournament low score. Bai seized the round one lead and was followed closely by Jackson Suber and Joseph Pagdin tied for second place. Suber, of Tampa and Pagdin, of Orlando fired one-under par 71 to trail the lead by one stroke. Jake Beber-Frankel would finish day one in fourth place after a steady even-par round.

The names at the top of the leaderboard shifted during Sunday’s final round. Day one leader, Johnny Bai, struggled through the inclement weather to post a 79 pushing him out of first place. Jackson Suber fought hard from second place with two birdies on the front nine for an even-par 36. Making the turn to the back-nine, Suber birdied both par threes to finish the final round at two-over par, 74. Jackson’s persistence propelled him into first place to capture his first FJT victory, 71-74—145. Valrico resident, Dhruv Patel, scored the low round of the day with three birdies en route to an impressive 71 that moved him into tied for second place with Jake Beber-Frankel. Jake, of Miami played consistently with rounds of 72-74—146 in his first FJT event. Luke Gifford finished in fourth place with rounds of 73-74—147.

Ariel (SiQin) Yu, of Bradenton held onto first place during both rounds with consistent scores of 72-73 for a tournament total 145. Ariel has now won two FJT events in 2015, her first win earned at Amelia National Golf Club in March. Longwood resident, Mimi (Xiaoyi) Chen finished two strokes behind Ariel with rounds of 75-72—147. The comeback round of the day was recorded by Amy Zhang who shot a one-under, 71, on Sunday, 13 strokes less than round one!  Erika Smith concluded the tournament in third place with two rounds of 75 for a tournament total 150.
