Timacuan G & CC (13-15)

The Timacuan Club - Lake Mary

October 5-6, 2013

Stone and Wang Win at Timacuan

The 13-15 age division traveled to Timacuan Golf & Country Club in Lake Mary for one of the few remaining events of the 2013 season. Since many players are fighting for more points to secure to their spot in the Tour Championship at TPC Sawgrass the field this weekend was packed full of great players.

Twenty-six girls teed off in the first round and several posted low scores. Latanna Stone, of Valrico, and Haydyn Gibson, of Clearwater, navigated the slick greens in route to one under par 71's to lead several girls by two shots.

In the final round Stone and Gibson got off to good starts. Gibson took a one stroke lead after nine holes with an even par 36 while Stone turned at one over par. On her final back nine, Gibson made bogeys on holes 1, 5, 6 and a double bogey on #2 to fall several stroke behind Stone.

Kelsey Zeng, of Orlando, started the day two strokes back and after a 35 on her front nine she found herself in contention. On her final nine, Zeng made bogeys on holes #2 and #6 which would leave her two strokes back of the eventual winner Stone. Stone made pars on her final nine holes to post rounds of 71-73--144 (E) which earned her second victory of the year.

Kelsey Zeng, shot rounds of 73-73--146 to finish alone in second place while Haydyn Gibson finished in third place with rounds of 71-76--147.

In the boys division, nine players took advantage of the great conditions and posted under par rounds on Saturday. Youxin (Robin) Wang, of Lake Mary, took a three shot lead of the a large pack of boys with a 66 (-6).

Sunday was a different story for Wang. He continued to make a lot birdies (#'s 11, 12, 14 and 15), but also made four bogeys (#'s 4, 13, 15, and 16) to post rounds of 66-72--138. Matthew Ruel, Of Oldsmar, trailed Wang by four strokes starting the final round, but made a run at the title with birdies on holes 1, 3, 9, 13 and 14. A costly bogey on the 18th would leave Ruel one shot back of Wang and the second place trophy, his best finish of the year.

Finishing tied for third place was Chandler Morris of Hobe Sound (71-71--142), Brandon Mancheno of Jacksonville (70-72--142), and Christophe Stutts of Maitland (70-72--142).
