Southwood GC (16-18)

Southwood Golf Club - Tallahassee

February 23-24, 2013

Young & Martin Get First Wins at FSU

Eighty-four junior golfers headed to Florida State University's home course, Southwood Golf Club, this weekend for the third 16-18 age division event of 2013. Southwood was pummeled with rain on Friday presenting the players with very wet and soft conditions. Round one was delayed on Saturday due to heavy rain, however, Officials were able to schedule a shotgun start early Sunday morning to complete the first round and start the final round immediately after. Luckily the weather held off and all 84 players completed thirty-six holes.

In the girls division, Emmy Martin, of Odessa, had an impressive bogey-free final round in route to her first Florida Junior Tour victory. Martin shot a first round 73 (+1) to lead by two strokes, but then pulled away from the pack by making three birdies and firing the only under par round of the tournament. Martin's rounds of 73-69--142 (-2) secured her a seven shot victory.

Emma Albrecht, of Ormond Beach, finished in second place with rounds of 76-73--149. Marisa Messana (76-74--150) and Lauren Gros (77-73--150) tied for third place.

The boys division was up for grabs after the first round with many players within reach of the leaders who posted an even par 72. In the final round, local Tallahassee standout, Matt Young, started the day only one stroke back and cruised to a 37 (+1) on the front nine. On the back nine, Young started draining some putts and made birdies on holes 10, 11, and 16 giving him a final total of 73-70--143 (-1). Young posted his score early and had to watch the scoreboard as most of the field started after him. It seemed the difficult greens at Southwood wreaked havoc for the non-locals and no one could catch Young. He held on for a two-stroke win; his first FJT victory.

Jordan Miller, of Bradenton, and Anthony Gabriele, of West Palm Beach, finished tied for second place with rounds of 72-73--145 and 75-70--145 respectively.

Rules

USGA Rules of Golf will govern play. Review the FSGA Hard Card and Pace of Play Policy. The Notice to Players (local rules and hole locations) will be distributed on the starting tee.

Range Finders - Electronic distance measuring devices are allowed. (effective December 1st, 2012)

Music - Phones and other devices that play music should not be used at the tournament site.  Listening to music during a competitive round will generally result in disqualification under the Rules of Golf.  This is true for all types of competitions - not just FJT (new Rule in 2012).

Pace of Play

The FJT uses a checkpoint pace of play policy that provides no verbal warnings throughout the round. Each group is responsible for playing under the allotted time or finishing each checkpoint hole within 15 minutes of the group ahead of them.

Pace of play will be strictly enforced with anticipated rounds to be less than 4 hours and 45 minutes. We strongly recommend that all players and parents read and understand the Pace of Play Policy.
