Parent-Child Championship

ChampionsGate Golf Resort, Reunion Resort and Club, & Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge Orlando, FL

July 26-27, 2025

ORLANDO, Fla. – More than 500 competitors teed it up at this year’s Parent-Child Championship, competing across five golf courses in the Orlando area and spanning seven age divisions. The 18-hole divisions were hosted at ChampionsGate Golf Resort, Reunion Resort & Club, and Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge.

Four teams emerged as champions in their respective divisions:

  • Leonard Schonfeld & Len Schonfeld (32 & Over)
  • Chad Ibbotson & Chase Ibbotson (24-31)
  • Steve Carter and Jacob Carter (18-25)
  • Jeronimo Esteve and Jeronimo Esteve (17 & Under)

32 & Over Division

Leonard and Len Schonfeld captured the 32 & Over Division title with an impressive 12-under performance, carding rounds of 68-64--132. Their winning effort included 12 total birdies and an eagle. Notably, their second round 64 (-8) helped them capture a 3-stroke ahead of the rest of the field. Jeff and Jordan Julow claimed second place at 9-under, while Greg and Kyle Martin and Bret and Bryce Voisin shared third at 6-under.

24-31 Division

The duo of Chad and Chase Ibbotson took home the win in the (24-31) age division. The Ibbotsons capitalized on their two-shot lead heading into the final round by shooting a two-under par round of 70. The Ibbotsons had a spectacular bogey-free back nine, highlighted by a clutch birdie on the 18th hole from the fairway bunker. Finishing one-shot behind them were the duo of Emma Leonardi (P) and Cole Leonardi, who shot a five-under 67. Michael and Alex Whitehead rounded out the top three with matching rounds of 70. 

18-23 Division

Steve and Jacob Carter claimed the top spot in the (18-23) division at 9-under, firing rounds of 67-68--135. Their impressive performance featured 13 birdies, capped off with one on the 18th to close out their win. Michael and Nicholas Faraone secured second place with rounds of 71-66--137, while Ross and Blake Taylor finished third after a strong 5-under 67 in the final round, highlighted by five birdies and an eagle.

Vicki Goetze-Ackerman and Jake Ackerman also finished at 9-under, but due to Vicki’s professional status, the team was not eligible for trophies or prizes.

17 & Under Division

Jeronimo and Jeronimo Esteve used a 12-under 132 to get a 1-stroke lead above the field and win their respective division. The duo carded 14 birdies between the two days. Finishing in second place was Patrick and Jack Mokris with an 11-under 133, and in third place was Rob and Christian Koehn with a 10-under 134.

Tournament Summary

Format:  36 holes of gross Modified Alternate Shot

Eligibility  Parent/Child Teams (defined below)

  • At least one player must be an FSGA member

Handicap:  No requirement

Entry Fee:  $320

Championship Format

  • 36 holes of gross Modified Alternate Shot
  • Teams will be placed into Age Divisions as of the child's age on the first day of the championship
  • Each age division champion will be the team with the lowest 36-hole total score
    • Age Divisions will be flighted for gift certificates for round two by round one scores
  • Modified Alternate Shot

    • Both players hit their tee shots
    • Next, both players hit the second shot with their partner's ball
    • After each ball has been played twice, the team chooses which ball it will use to complete the hole hitting alternate shots into the hole
  • Max score of 10 is in effect

Eligibility

  • Male and Female amateur golfers at least 13 years of age or older - See the FSGA’s Competitive Fairness Gender Policy
  • Any grandparent, parent, step-parent, child or grandchild of which at least one must be a member of the FSGA
  • There is no maximum age limit for grandparent, parent or child
  • A child under the age of 13 can move up to play in the Regular Division (at the Committees discretion), but a child age 13 or older may not play in the 9-hole Division
  • Professionals may play; however, the team is not eligible for trophies or prizes
  • Grandparents may play with grandchildren
  • Father in-laws and mother in-laws may play with their son in-law or daughter in-law
  • Only two-person teams are permitted

Entry Fee

  • $320
  • Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field

  • 8:00 AM shotgun start BOTH DAYS

The Courses

  • ChampionsGate Golf Resort - International & National Courses will both continue to be in the 2025 rotation. The newly renovated International Course, is a beautifully styled coastal links course, which was remodeled to feel more like it's original design. 
  • Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge (Panther) - A recent staple and crowd favorite, Orange County National's Panther Lake Course meanders through rolling terrain and puts a premium on the approach shots. It has tested PGA Tour & Korn Ferry Tour "Q-School" in recent year.
  • Reunion Resort and Club - Palmer & Watson Courses have entered into the 2025 rotation. 

Entry Priority

  • Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt
  • Entries received after their respective age division is full (52 teams each) or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list
    • Alternates will be contacted in the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available

Age Divisions & 2025 Daily Course Rotation

  • Each Age Division will play two 18-hole golf courses over two days. Age Divisions will change course rotation annually so that everyone will have a chance to play all courses over the years.
  • Age Divisions are based on the child's age as of the first day of the Championship.
    • Child 17 & Younger - Reunion Resort (Watson to Palmer)
    • Child 18 - 23 - ChampionsGate (National to International)
    • Child 24-31 - ChampionsGate (International) to Orange County National (Panther Lake)
    • Child 32 & Older - Reunion Resort (Palmer to Watson)

Course assignments were finalized on 5/13/25 after all divisions were full.

The FSGA reserves the right to adjust the age divisions and field sizes in order to equally distribute the number of teams on each golf course

Championship Practice Rounds

  • ChampionsGate Golf Resort - available at the discounted rate of $ 50 plus tax per player one week prior to the event, limited to after 10:00 AM on a space available basis. Please call (407) 787-4653 to reserve a tee time.

  • Reunion Resort and Club - available at the discounted rate of $ 65 plus tax per player one week prior to the event and after 10:00 AM the weekend prior on a space available basis. Please call (407) 396-3196 to reserve a tee time.

  • Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge - available at the discounted rate of $ 55 plus tax per player one week prior to the event, limited to after 12:00 PM on a space available basis. Please call (407) 656-2626 to reserve a tee time.

Carts

  • Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.
  • Spectator carts may be rented on the day of the competition, based on availability on a first-come first-served basis, at all courses for $25 plus tax per day per cart.

    • Men 18-49 - 6,500 - 6,700 yards
    • Boys 15-17 & Men 50-64 - 6,100 - 6,300 yards
    • Boys 14 & Younger and Men 65 & Over - 5,400 - 5,500 yards
    • Women 15 - 49 - 5,400 - 5,500 yards
    • Girls 14 & Younger and Women 50 & Over -  4,800 - 5,000 yards
