Trace Claims FJT Major at Innisbrook

Travis Trace captured the Boys 16-18 age division in the Florida Junior Tour (FJT) Major held at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor. The event was conducted May 25-27.

Travis Trace, of Jacksonville, erased a four stroke deficit to win his career FJT title by three strokes.  Playing the first round on the Copperhead Course, Trace fired an even par round of 71, to trail the first round leader Zachary Smith, of Palm Beach, after his stellar four-under par 67. Playing the difficult Island Course on Sunday, Trace continued his steady play posting a two-over par round of 73, to continue to trail by four entering the final round on the Copperhead Course.  Trace played a flawless final round on Monday, making birdies on 1,2,9, and 12 to go along with no bogies, for an impressive round of 4-under par 67 to win the coveted FJT Major title.

Anthony Gabriele, of West Palm Beach, finished alone in second place after rounds of 72-68-74, for a tournament total of one-over par 214. Gabriele was the only player in the field of 84 players to post an under par round on the Island Course. Nicolas Parra, of Windermere, finished in third place posting a tournament total of 215.

While PGA TOUR professionals call Copperhead one of the “Top Five” courses they play all year, their members consider the Island Course to be even better! They recently completed a $2-million renovation on the Island, and it is the site of the LPGA Legend Tour’s first major championship.
