Hurtado & Torres Victorious at Sun 'N Lake

 

SEBRING, Fla. – The FJT Sun ‘N Lake Open faired beautiful weather conditions throughout the weekend, and Ignacio Hurtado and Alessandra Torres came out victorious. Hurtado posted rounds of 73-70--143, while Torres posted rounds of 75-74--149. This is both of their first FJT victories.

Boys (13-15)

It was Bryce Napier who conquered round one with an opening score of 2-under 70. The Palm Harbor native carded four total birdies and a bogey-free back nine to take the lead by three heading into Sunday’s final round. The weather conditions Sunday morning couldn’t have been more perfect for the final day. During the first few holes of the second round, it became a battle between many players at the top of the leaderboard. Ignacio Hurtado fired a bogey free front nine with three birdies catapolt himself to the top. James Nagle and Lawson Ford also worked their way up the leaderboard during their back nine to get themselves a great chance, but it was Hurtado who took the victory by one shot over the field. 

James Nagle and Lawson Ford tied for second place both shooting under par rounds for their final round. Nagle posted rounds of 75-69--144, while Ford posted scores of 74-70--144.

Girls (13-15)

It was a tight race throughout the day for the first round. Ultimately, it was Claire Liu who posted a 1-over 73 to take the lead by one shot over Iris Lee. Liu held strong on the front nine of the second round, and kept her lead by two shots over Alessandra Torres heading into the final nine holes. Torres stayed steady on her back nine carding one birdie and two bogies, while Liu posted three bogies to bring them to a tie for first place. Torres made par on the first playoff hole to seal her first FJT victory with scores of 75-74--149.

Liu posted scores of 73-76--149 to take second place after the play-off, while Dannika Hines and Hannah Castillo tied for third place.

Format:  36 holes of individual gross stroke play

  • Florida Junior Tour Membership

Handicap:  Florida GHIN 18.0 or less (included with junior membership)

Entry Fee:  $150

Field Determination: 84 player field

Practice Round Information: $40 + tax

Divisions and Approximate Yardages

  • Boys (13-15) - 6,700 yards (gross only)
  • Girls (13-15) - 5,700 yards (gross only)

How Entries are Accepted

  • Players with an unused FJT exemption will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis (if submitted before the entry deadline).
  • Players without an FJT exemption - all other entries are held until the entry closing date.  Shortly after the closing date, a computer-generated random draw is performed to determine which entries are accepted, and the order of the alternates. All players are notified of their status after the random draw is conducted.
  • An alternates list will be posted to the FSGA website under "Tee Times & Player Information".
  • Entries submitted after the entry deadline will be added to the bottom of the alternates list or used to fill any openings in the field

Schedule of Events

  • Saturday, March 30th

    • 11:30 AM - 1:47 PM - Tournament Registration (near pro shop)

    • 12:00 PM - 1:57 PM - Round one tee times off the 1st and 10th tees

  • Sunday March 31st

    • 8:00 AM - 9:57 AM - Final round tee times off of the 1st and 10th tees

      • Awards presentation immediately following the completion of play

How to Enter

  • Entries are submitted through the FSGA website

  • To enter, each player must create an FSGA account on this website (free to set-up), purchase a current Junior Membership ($45), and have an active Florida GHIN Handicap (included in membership if golfer does not already have one)

  • To proceed, click the "Enter" button above once entries have opened.

  • Late Entry Fee: A late fee of $10 will be applied to entries submitted after the close of entries date. The entry fee and late fee will only be applied if the player gets accepted in to the tournament field.

Practice Rounds

  • Practice rounds are available one week prior to the tournament on a space-available basis

  • Tee times are only available after 12:00 noon the weekend prior

  • The price for a practice round is $40.00 + tax

  • Please call 863-385-4830 to arrange your practice round

    • The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range; hitting multiple shots on the course, not filling divots, and not repairing ball marks are unacceptable and may cause removal from the tournament without a refund
