Brodeur & Smyers Go Deep at Two-Man Shoot-Out

Vero Beach, Fla. – After an exciting 54 holes of golf over two days, Anthony Brodeur and Scott Smyers win their first state championship together at the Two-Man Shoot-Out. The Shoot-Out consists of three separate formats consisting of modified alternate shot, scramble and four-ball. Testing every aspect of your game, Brodeur & Smyers were able to walk away with a one shot victory.

Modified Alternate Shot

Saturday arrived with 104 players making up 52 teams all looking to get off to a hot start in the most difficult format, the modified alternate shot. The team of Anthony Brodeur and Scott Smyers got off to a hot start with a round of 61 (-9) on the Harbor Course. Their bogey free round made it seem like they were the team of destiny getting off to a five shot lead with the scramble round to come. However, heavy winds and difficult conditions on the River Course had other plans for them.

Scramble

The team of Mackenzie Edwards and Patrick Perez, who sat five shots back after round 1, made the scramble portion all about them. With winds gusting up to 35 miles per hour, they were able to fire a round of 60 (-12), two shots ahead of anybody else. Faltering a bit with a second round 66, Brodeur and Smyers finished one shot back of the lead heading into the final round four-ball format.

Four-Ball

Sunday morning came and it was turning into a two team race, with the teams of Edwards / Perez & Brodeur / Smyers pulling away from the field. A back and forth final round brought the two teams to tied standing on the 17th tee. A birdie on 17 gave Brodeur / Smyers a one shot lead heading into the shortened 18th. All four players found the fairway, but what made it more exciting was that all four players’ approach shots finished within 15 feet of the hole for birdie. First to go, the team of Edwards / Perez left their birdie putt hanging on the lip, leaving the door ajar for Anthony Brodeur who had 12 feet for birdie. Dying it into the hole, Anthony Brodeur & Scott Smyers birdied the last to win the 2025 Two-Man Shoot-Out!
