Round one saw only four under-par scores across the three age divisions in overcast and windy weather conditions. Baldonick Fernandez, of Pembroke Pines climbed to the top after a two under-par, 70, and was followed closely by Jerome Brown who posted a one under-par 71 in the 40-54 division. Jimmy Morris and Jim Marcelak tied for third place with a 74, two over-par.  In the 55 to 64 age division, Cory Walker, of Ormond Beach carded an even par first round to finish in first place, one stroke ahead of 2015 Senior Four-Ball Champion Rokki Rogan, of Fort Myers.  Tied for third place was Mike Arnold and Scott Jones with two over-par, 74. The other two under-par rounds of the day came from the 65 and over division. Tampa resident, Kim Schwencke posted a two-under par, 70 to take the lead and Thomas Jung, of Fort Myers finished one stroke behind in second place with a one under-par 71. Each division would experience a close race for the victory with the leaders’ only one-stroke ahead going into round two.

Consistency prevailed in the 40-54 division with Jimmy Morris posting a second two over-par 74 to tie Jerome Brown for first place with a tournament total 148. Brown moved from second place with a day two 77 while Fernandez struggled to a score of 82, falling to tied for fourth place. After scoring a par on the first playoff hole, number 18, Morris earned a victory and his first winter series win. Rokki Rogan came from behind with an impressive second round of two under-par, 70, to seize first place in the 55-64 division with a one under-par tournament total of 143. Rogan finished three strokes ahead of Cory Walker who finished the tournament with a two over-par 74, tournament total 146. Pete DeLongchamp played impressive golf on Tuesday, posting one under-par to finish in third place (76-71—147). Kim Schwencke went wire-to-wire to win the 65 and over division with a one under-par tournament total of 143. Second place was captured by Pete Andrews after a great round two score of one under-par (74-71—145).

The Winter Series is for players 40 years and older, and runs from late November through early March. Players will compete in one of three age divisions (40-54, 55-64 and 65 & Over) based on their age for the final event. A season long points list is kept through the winter earning players exemptions into 2016 FSGA State Championships. The next stop for the Winter Series will be at The Conservatory at Hammock Beach in Palm Coast, January 4-5.

Eligibility

Entries are open to male amateur golfers who are age 40 or older as of March 1, 2016 and a Regular or Foundation Member of the FSGA.

Entry Fees & Prizes

  • $160 ($170 - members who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap).
  • Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field.
  • Age group Champions at each event will receive a commemorative award. Gift certificates of approximately $30 per player will be awarded for each of the age groups.

Tee Times

  • Round 1 - 8:00 AM off of the 1st and 10th tees.
  • Round 2 - 8:30 AM shotgun start

Individual Age Divisions & Yardages

There are three age divisions; Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super-Senior (65 & above). Each player must compete in the age division commensurate with their age as of March 1, 2016. Competitors may not elect to play in a different age division of from a different tee than designated.

  • Mid-Senior (40-54) plays approximately 6,700 yards
  • Senior (55-64) plays approximately 6,400 yards
  • Super-Senior (65 & above) approximately 6,100 yards

**After the first round, each age division may be flighted based on the number of competitors and/or the range of scores.

Practice Rounds & Cost

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the event on a space available basis.  Practice rounds are restricted until after 12:00 PM on weekends.  To arrange your practice round please call the club at (239) 313-4653.  The cost of a practice round is $40 plus tax.
